Suppressors Threading Savage 10fcp LE .308

I have always wanted a tactical style rifle with long range potential and a suppressor. I have a potential deal on a Savage 10FCP LE in .308 but it is not threaded. As I recall it is a recessed crown barrel. Can this barrel be threaded by a good gunsmith to accept a suppressor? What are the things I need to consider if I chose to have it threaded?

yes, a good smith can do it easily, and for under $100

one thing you would want to consider is whether to shorten the barrel and by how much in order to compensate for the weight/length of the suppressor, especially if you are going to use the rifle for more than just benchrest. I took my 10FCP from 24" to 20" and do not regret it. With the can on the center of gravity of my setup feels like it rests directly between my hands when I hold it, and there has been no sacrifice to its shooting other than a small reduction in muzzle velocity. thread pattern is another thing, although for .30cal 5/8-24 is pretty standard.

Just make sure it is a good gunsmith. I'm still trying to get a fix for a crappy thread job, hidden by the QD mount, that resulted in baffle strikes. The smith says it wasn't him, but can't explain why every baffle was struck. YHM says the threads weren't concentric with the bore and are out of spec to boot. YHM will rethread mine for $60 once I figure out how to get some satisfaction from the smith. My previous threading cost $60. This yahoo charged me $85, so price isn't an indicator.
