I took a look in a few places on how bolt handles are TIGd on, it seems to me that a V cut is made in the bolt and then TIGd on from inside to hide the weld. Im aware of all the timing stuff etc when doing this but would like some input on the TIG proceess. Am I correct about the V cutout.

Re: Tig welding bolt handles

it depends on the welder , the ones i've had done were welded all the way around except for the came area , you could see that it was tig welded rather than solderd but that diden't bother me in the least

Re: Tig welding bolt handles

If either are done right, they will be stronger than you will ever need. As far as a V cut is concerned, I guess that depends on the bolt shape and how it contacts the knob. Tig welding has extreme penetration per amp output. When used by a competent tig welder the tig welding process is a fantastic way of making a superior weld that is clean, super strong and sweet looking. And if you don't want to see the weld, you can sand/grind/flapper wheel the weld down. ......SmokeRolls
