Tightening up a recreational Remington 700

Hi all!
I have a 1980's era Remington 700 LH with a Shilen 300 Win Mag barrel that I would like to use for some recreational long-range shooting. The problem is that it occasionally throws flyers. I'm currently trying to decide whether to bed the original wood stock (it's beautiful "they don't make 'em like that any more" walnut) or put it in a synthetic stock.

After I see how it shoots in a bedded stock, I'll decide whether I'm serious enough to have the barreled action checked and trued.

Here's my question:
Am I missing something, or are my options extremely limited for restocking a 700 LH long action? That's one reason I'm thinking about bedding the original stock.

Thanks!

Bedding will improve accuracy incrementally (1/4 MOA-1/2 MOA) roughly 90% of the time. If you were to decide to upgrade, what would your budget be for a new stock?

Assuming money little or no object, the following stock makers issue stocks for Remington 700 L/A

-McMillian Bros ~650.00 if going w/A2-A5, less if choosing an HTG variant. (see hyperlink in above post for immediate availability and specific pricing)

-Accuracy International-AICS Chassis system ~$850 for 1.5 and ~$1050 for 2.0 (folding stock) note-integral detachable box magazine w/1 5-round magazine is included w/ AICS 1.5 or 2.0

-Bell and Carlson: not sure on pricing.

-Manners ~$450-500

-H/S Precision ~$400-600 depending upon model

Re: Tightening up a recreational Remington 700

Thanks for the info but I'm still a little confused. I'm a lefty and the only LH stock in the JW Precision link was the A-5 LA left hand. That's pretty similar to what I found on Stocky's. That's what I meant by "limited options".

I guess the answer is custom order, like oneshot onekill suggested.

Your not really limited unless you are only looking for lower cost options. McMillan or Manners can make a LH version in every stock that I am aware of.

Have a trusted smith pillar bed that wood stock and the flyers will disappear, provided they are not shooter induced.

Re: Tightening up a recreational Remington 700

If you really luv the look n feel of wood and want a different look laminates are way to go

Best of both worlds, great looks of wood and the modern ones are reported to be as stable as any high composite stock

better yet send it to me and forget about it
