Hello gentlemen

I am very new to LR shooting and this forum in particular. So I hope someone will be able to help.
I have Tikka Master Sporter 595 in 308. I would like to use SPUHR mount but Hakan from Spuhr said they don't make mounts for 595 action, so I will need a picatinny rail mounted on top of the receiver and I will be able to mount SPUHR on top of it.
My question is: can I use original Sako TRG picatinny rail - like this one http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthre...rue#Post2848252 on my Tikka. I could not locate diagrams for neither of the rifles. Does anybody know if locations of predrilled holes in the receivers are the same for Tikka 595 and TRG?

Thanks
Mike

Re: Tikka and Sako experts please

Mike,
I can't say for sure about hole locations being the same but I highly doubt it. They are different from the TRG to the T3 and the T3 action is much closer in design to the TRG. There's a 595 specific rail anyway so no need to buy a TRG rail. I'm thinking US Optics made it but probably Near makes one as well.

If you have to use a rail base, you kind of lose a lot of the benefit of the Spuhr mount. It's still good kit, but you might as well just get the separate rings and save some dough. The mount is really at its best directly on top of a TRG or AI, not on top of a picatinny rail. Welcome to the hide!

Mike, Massoud is correct. EGW make s an inexpensive pic rail for the 595. I wanted to do the same with my 595 MS but Hakan (Spuhr here on the hide) informed me that the TRG Spuhr mount will not work on the 595.

" It does not work on the 595 though and that is because of the parted rail on the top,its only complete at the ends, and in the middle the have stolen some material."

IF you got to have the Spuhr it will be attached to the EGW. Might just wanna go rings Spuhr makes nice rings as well.

Re: Tikka and Sako experts please

I just checked for you. While both the TRG and the M595 have .860" center to center base screw holes, the spacing between the two bases isn't the same and won't line up. It looks like you will need to buy an M595 specific Picatinny rail like the EGW mentioned.

But I agree with the others. Mounting a Spuhr on top of a Picatinny rail, on top of a receiver with a built in 17mm rail, just isn't an elegant solution, especially considering the scope height you would end up with.

Re: Tikka and Sako experts please

I understand your annoyed about it, as the 595 Master sporter is a really nice rifle.

You can easaly use Tikka optilock rings and those can very easaly be set to any prefered tilt.
If you wanna use my system because of the benefits of vial, 45 degree rings and the assesorry possibilitys the only way is the picatinny rail.

We also made a 1" high rings in the same configuration as the mounts, they are just 1" high instead of 1,18" high.
That might be an option, but you still needs the picatinny.

I would go for a unimount though, as they are more rugged and they have a more visiable vial than the separate rings have.

Re: Tikka and Sako experts please

Thank you very much all who replied. Guess I have 2 options: SPUHR on top of picatinny (and honestly I do prefer this way because of the level and wedge mounting system) or Near Alphamount which is also a 1 piece mount. My next question will be: if I use picatinny with 20 MOA slope should I add another 20 MOA with SPUHR on top of it? Scope clearance should not be a problem - it's S&B 5-25x56 which has 62mm total diameter. Or should I use 0 MOA SPUHR?
I believe this system should be very functional up to 1000m, though I have to agree - not very pretty

Is EGW good quality base? I don't think their bases have recoil lug which Near's do have.

Thanks

Re: Tikka and Sako experts please

Your system will be funktional with 20 MOA out to 1000 meters, no problems.
If your scope is a Mil scope you can use 2x20 moa but you will have a poorer imagequality on close range like 100 meters.
If your scope is a MOA you cannot use 2x20 moa as there not is sufficient travel.

Thank you very much Hakan. I will go with 20 MOA. Just need to pick the base.
