Tikka short mag feeding as LA

I’ve been jonesin to build a lightweight (short carbon barrel, carbon stock) tikka 300 wsm or 7 SAUM hunting rifle as a long action for some time. The main thing holding me back has been that I haven’t gotten the warm and fuzzies about reliable feeding in anything other than AI style 338 mags.

I want to minimize any mag protrusion and avoid m5 style mag releases. So far the Aussie mags seem like the best option, they do protrude more than I’d like.

I have the long action mags from Mountain Tactical. They work great with my 7SS which is a 7 saum but less taper and slightly shorter. I haven’t compared them to the factory mags but I think they are really close to the same size.
