Tikka T1x 17hmr vs 22lr

Can I get someone’s opinion on the two different calibers. I just got my T1x but I realized it’s 17hmr instead of 22. I want a 22 but didn’t realize it was a 17hmr. Could’ve sworn I hard the rep who sold me the gun say it was a 22lr.

Any thoughts? Should I keep it or try to return it. Maybe anyone want to trade even?

What are you using it for? As a hunting rifle, it won't make any difference and I actually prefer the 17hmr. If you plan on shooting it a lot or using it as a target gun, 22 lr will win. There is more ammo variety on 22 lr, so you can get stuff that is cheaper or you can get match grade stuff. 17 hmr is mostly hunting ammo.

If it’s for plinking, hunting, or vermin control, the 17 won’t be beat.

If match ammo and tiny groups are a concern you want the 22, though the 17 will print some small groups as well, also has a lot more steam behind it.

17 is going for ~18 bucks for 50 rounds right now, so if price is a concern 22 is also much cheaper.

Thanks for the replies! This was the answer I was looking for. I did want to use this rifle as a target rifle and did want to save on cost. Didn’t realize how much 17hmr was.

I did want a 22lr for the t1x but now I randomly got a 17hmr t1x. Going to try to return it or sell it. Kind of stumped I didn’t find the T1x in 22lr. Can’t find them anywhere
