posted this over on bolt action but thought I would here as well.
Looking at getting a Lefty, Tikka T3X Lite 22.4" barrel 6.5 creedmoor. Is the barrel heavy / thick enough for a suppressor? Would have to get threaded. Thoughts?

I had my sporter weight .270 threaded 1/2-28. It's a hunting rifle that doesn't see many rounds. 20181103_053648.jpg

How far back do you have to measure to get the .662 recommended? I’d give up an inch or two to get as much as possible on the shoulder.

You’ll gain a few thou at the shoulder .600 back from the muzzle. I’d thread my own rifle 9/16 with .632 at the muzzle and not lose any sleep over it.
I try to avoid threading anything over .223 bore at 1/2-28. Never know when you or someone else in the future will have a brain fart and screw a .223 muzzle device on it.

Not sure how much threading is going to cost you but $550 T3X Lite is what one starts at. Varmint comes threaded and it’s $725 CTR is $800-$835 I’m saying wholesale prices. I know some platinum dealers sell them wholesale

I had my hunting 6.5 Creedmoor chopped back to 20" for suppressed hunting, 18" or 19" might even be better depending on how far you intend on shooting.

My .30-06 X-Bolt barrel was ~0.635" at 18", I had Ecco Machine chop it to 18.5" thread on and rocksett a collar, then turn it square to provide a generous shoulder. The 6.5 Kimber was similarly set up, but had to be threaded 1/2x28 due to the barrel profile. Works great and I plan on having the same thing done to any hunting rigs I pick up in the future. The generous shoulders keep DT cans snug, even through many miles of hiking. Might have my CTR done the same way, as they don't come with much of a shoulder and my cans have a tendency to loosen on that rifle.

6.5 on the left, .30-06 on the right.

The X-Bolt is a long action and the Kimber is a very compact short action, so they wound up being almost the exact same length overall.

I'd do 1/2-28 without worrying about it. It isn't ideal, but it will work fine. Believe it or not I have seen 1/2 inch threads on sporter weight 300 win mag barrels and the owner reported no problems.

If 1/2-28 isn't to your liking then I would recommend a larger diameter thread and a collar with a larger shoulder as shown above. The face mount on a 5/8-24 thread is also a really good option, but depending on what suppressor you have that might not be an option.

The Lite is quite a bit lighter than a Varmint, especially if it is going to be a lightweight hunting rifle. I have a CTR, a Varmint, and my son has a T3 Lite in 270. The Varmint is the heaviest. Also, I have not seen a factory threaded Varmint, I have only seen the CTR and TAC A1 threaded from the factory. I had my 223 Varmint threaded 5/8"x24 so I could run my 30 cal suppressors without a thread adapter.
