Tikka t3x Whiskey-3 Chassis

About to buy a whiskey 3 chassis, my only concern is the durability, im sure its a very well made chassis, but how well does the stock hold up being carried in say a side scabbard or any sort of pressure/torquing on the stock? Is this a non issue or should i go with something more traditional like the bravo?

Also is the folding function worth the $400 im not really sure what their is to gain from that other than maybe caring it in a duffel or something similar? Or a shorter case made for AR? Idk maybe im missing something.

Removing the bolt without moving the cheek rest is worth 400 to me.

I've got gen-4 Whiskey 3, and I have zero concerns about its durability. I would presume that the newer ones would be every bit as rugged, if not more so.

I decided to save some money and go with the non-folding version, and haven't regretted it at all. The cheekpiece is very easy to remove and return to where you set it, so it's not an impediment to cleaning.

Why dont you just get a KRG Bravo? Its like half the price, then if you want you can upgrade the rear end to a W3 down the road. The action sits in a aluminum chassis/back bone, dont worry about torquing it because I doubt it will even notice it. Folders are something you want or you dont, if you need that extra compactness when your packing it up then thats where a folder typically shines.

The bravo has an aluminum backbone also, and I wouldn’t worry about torquing either the w3 or bravo mounted on a pack. I prefer the w3 large grip over the bravo, and it has a different thumb shelf that’s more comfortable to me. The folder is very nice when it comes to cleaning the rifle, and that’s all I use it for. Locks up very tight with no movement.

The Whiskey 3 is a very sturdy chassis. I have had 3 of them, the only issue was with the lower hinge on a old gen 3 Whiskey, which developed some play after some months of use. KRG sent me a new updated replacement hinge and it and every chassis Ive had since then has been flawless. I run the TRG rear folding gen 6 rear stock now, it awesome!

I don’t think so. It’s still a long bolt even if it’s got the short action bolt stop in.

Tikka Bravo won’t even come out if the rest is all the way down. I have to remove it. On my TRG W3 I have to fold the stock.

I just sold a W3 Folder. The cheek rest slides out in half a second and goes back in without losing it's last position. I use all of my other folders to facilitate cleaning without moving the cheek rest. The W3 was the exception; not once did I fold it to remove the bolt. If I were to buy another W3 it would not be a folder.

It has stiff o-rings that you can set as a "memory"

Ok they’re pretty worn out on mine. That just works ok. I’d rather fold the stock.
