Time capsule

Yeah that whole thing looks like a restoration to me. The lettering doesn't look correct.

Then looking at say the slide stop, you can tell it's been buffed and refinished.

Something about that one is not right including but not limited to the grips. I have had a couple of unfired WW1 1911’s. The “glow” is missing on that one.
Below is one that has been shot about every day since issue but not refinished. ?

Ill be taking a carbine/pistol class this spring and intend on using my new from the box USMC M45A1 decommissioned 1911 to meet the pistol requirement.

A little voice in my head is saying "No! Its pristine, its the last of the GI 1911s, you cant!"......

but.......

A louder voice is saying "Fuck it! Its a hammer, go pound nails!"

Pretty spectacular. I am not qualified to say whether it is 100 percent original or not, but it is pretty damn awesome!

I went through the guy's other auctions and have a bid in on an SAA.

Stranger things have happened... I can't say it's what it is described as. But I sure hope it is!

Cheers,

Sirhr

P.S. Thanks for the link! Very cool stuff there!

As I comment on this, the price is $17,591.89. That's a helluva price to pay for what that cost new, $14.25-$20.00 (1911-1920). If indeed it is original?

I gotta say, I take care of my "historic" weapons, but I do fire them. I couldn't buy a weapon like this and not test it out. That would cost me at least half the price of the gun if I sold it to another collector.o_O

Amazing.
I had an unfired complete rig. 1917 mfg. holster, mags, fac, lanyard. All perfect like new. Sold for 12 k. Two years ago. Guess the market is up even more. Guns like this brought 2500 6 years ago.

There used to be a 1911 restorer named Bill Adair. I would bet money that is one of his restorations.

He did an awesome job restoring one, and usually only charged $300 or $400 for a full restoration.

He was known for putting the US Property markings back on the 1911 pistols if you had one removed. He could put one back on and touch up the finish and you couldn't even tell.

Bill did everything by hand, even the lettering. He was a true artist.

I honestly have no doubt that is a restoration.

If this is a restoration, It would seem that this would come back around in the sellers feedback? Seems he does a lot of high end sales and it doesn’t reflect that he’s misrepresented anything before. Interesting....

There is a lot in his current auctions that look monkeyed with. I think what is happening is he is selling a collection for an estate.

I've seen this a lot. Someone passes, the family knows no real history of the weapons. A local gun dealer who usually knows very little as well, sells them for the family.

There is a discussion now open on this in the M1911 forum. Everyone on there is saying the same thing, it doesn't look right.
