Well to be be precise my father, has some sort of copay insurance thing where they take money from his paycheck and allocate it for seeing devices. The account turns over in a day or maybe two, with 650 unused and he loses it.
So binoculars or a spotting scope. He technically could use it on a rifle scope but we don't want to put more money into this and have no need for a mid range scope. He has no use for a aimpoint micro or I'd tell him to buy me one lol he said no on that.
So binoculars or a spotting scope, we have neither. I think he would get more use out of binoculars personally. I've never looked at binos before. Things you should know about him he's pretty stable for 50, he's a better shot standing up then I am, so I don't think he'd have trouble stabilizing a 10X. He does however wear tri-focal contacts so definitely a good easy to use diopter adjustment is a necessity.
Does he want a pocket size or larger binos? I'm not sure. If something is so much better for another 100-150 more I'll put the money in, we do most things together.
If a non glass afficianado won't make use of a scope more than 500, and we can do the spotting scope and binoculars for a just a little bit more to make the most of the money again I'll put money in to do that.
Due to doing this through his insurance I'm fairly positive we can't use my military discount on leupold. (he's finding that out but its unlikely, we shoot together so I wouldn't feel its disengenious, this is how to help my long range practice for the USMC)
My default thought is to get something through SWFA, but where it comes from doesn't matter all that much.
We don't have decent binos or a decent spotting scope. So advice on best way to allocate 650 dollars.
Binos preferably, we care more about user friendly then we do ease of traveling. So if thats bigger ok, if smaller is more user friendly due to weight ok. I don't know I've used the old military binos that were tanks and crap and not much else.
Unfortunately I have to go to work now and won't check until 4 am so I hope you guys can direct me on what to look at when I get back, you always have in the past
Oh yeah probably a one time purchase so while not only waterproof shock proof and durability matter, warranty probably does as well. I don't know what style, brand or magnification to suggest. No clue.
