Gunsmithing Timney & model 70 problem?

Installed a win 70 moa timney in my '71 model 70. Put it in per instructions. The trigger fired. Now the bolt will not recock or move to safety.

I've already taken the bolt down and reassembled it. Still nothing.

Timney is closed until the 2nd and I can't find the troubleshooting page.

Any help?

Why are you using the MOA version vs the std Timney model 70 trigger?

I love it when those tempermental, expensive triggers go FUBAR
when the original keeps on ticking. I have never seen a trigger better than a Win 70 trigger if the shooter has no physical infirmity to keep them from actually pulling a whopping 2#.

Never had a problem with any other timney I've had.

Got the MOA model because I thought it was the new and improved version. Suppose to be a drop in fit where as the original may take some extra fitting.

From what I understand, the sear needs to be adjusted to allow the bolt to recock?

Might want to look over their website again. Looks like it is a drop in fit for the newer rifles that came with the MOA trigger.

The later model M70 factory triggers can not be safely adjusted below 2.5 lbs, and many have lots of creep.
Don't believe me contact George or Chad and ask them.
Sorry to hijack the OP's thread but I felt it was neccessary to post correct information.

You're right. But as it turns out I don't have the moa model anyway. It's the standard timney win 70 #401. I'll edit the original post. Either way.. Looks like I got the right trigger and its installed per instructions and not working.

If your not opposed to a crisp 2.5lb factory trigger, gather up your stuff and send it to me.

I know how to do a M70 trigger job RIGHT. Meaning it'll break clean without slam firing. I'm not gifted, I learned how to do it right from the final assmebly guys at Dakota Arms. The Dakota 76 and 97 actions use essentially the same trigger as an M70.

2.5lbs is the lowest safe/reliable weight setting for a factory trigger. Go below that and the gun WILL slam fire. You have to have the right pressure at the sear to hold it still when running the bolt hard. This is pretty typical of 2 lever trigger designs.

Your safety is being a bitch because the sear engagement point has changed. The 3P safety depends on a level of careful timing between cocking piece/sear in order to work right. Chances are it's camming back a touch too far and the lever is biting on the radius instead of the cam surface.

I can fix that as well.

Be glad to help. I have a great affection for M70 CRF and PF actions.
