I didn't want to hijack anothers thread so I started this.

I have used Jewell triggers in AR platforms before. I can't say I have had any problems and they can be adjusted to a very light first and second stage. All in all, I can say I am happy with them.

I have seen a lot of advertising for Timney and many have used them.....How do you like them?

Has anyone encountered both products and have an opinion on either?

Thanks,

Blade

Re: Timney or Jewell?

I just installed a timney on my SPS the day before yesterday. I havent actually shot it yet, but I have dry fired the crap out of it. I thought the factory trigger was pretty light..... until I put on the Timney. Love it and I cant wait to shoot it.

Re: Timney or Jewell?

I have had good luck with timney in my hunting rifles. I have a Jewell that was set at about 8oz. and it breaks like glass. I think both are good upgrades. I would give the edge to Jewell.

Then why don't you go to a Benchrest precision forum and ask? This forum is for rifles that are going to get used and get dirty...a lot. If that's your rifle, get a Timney, if it's not, go to www.benchrest.com

It's not. A "precision" AR?

Now if you want to get into a pissing contest as to my BS flag flying over your "3K rounds in 3 days", with a "precision" rifle we can do that. Of course for your proof we will need documentation along with much explanation.

Either way, Jewel's suck in my opinion, you couldn't pay me to run one. Of course, I don't shoot pretty BR precision rifles though.

They make an AR trigger now?

Timneys are nice, but if you really want a precision AR trigger get a Geissele.

My bad (Huber in a bolt rifle). They are in design

For a AR, accept no sub.

Re: Timney or Jewell?

I just started running a Timney in my AR10. It functions well and the pull is a reliable 3lbs single stage.

As for Jewels. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they all stink. That being said, I have run a jewel on my rifle since the day it was delivered. Preston at Surgeon installed it when he built the rifle. I have not had any issues with it. It has not malfunctioned. I have never fired 1000 rounds of rifle ammo in a day (I have done it with a shotgun, three days running). That rifle, however, has had more than a hundred a day during a course in a dusty, dirty range with a bunch of damn cows wandering around nearby. So it probably got cowshit in it too.
Take it for what it is worth. I got one jewel. I have 3 timney triggers and will buy another soon for a rifle I am building. And I like the remington old style trigger too. Try it out and get what you like.
That is my opinion.

Re: Timney or Jewell?

ok, ok... Yes, in all actuallity, it may be about 1500 rounds in 3 days on the high side. I exaggerated it due to the fact that it was kind of being called a more of a "pretty" gun than a used gun. IMHO, even if it were 300 rounds a day for 3 days, I would still think that it's a used and dirty rifle.

The info is good so far. Thanks for the Gisselle ideas. I see they have a whole selection of different models to choose from.

My bad (Huber in a bolt rifle).</div></div>

I like my triggers to not go off if I accidentally bump my rifle. I'm sticking with the old 700 or Timney triggers.

Re: Timney or Jewell?

I have a Timney on my .204 AR. Works fine in the PD towns, 500 rounds on a dusty day - I'm not sure if that's precision or tactical - stayed crisp and consistent until the PDs gave up and hid underground.

I have Jewells on a couple of my bolt guns, and they work well in that application. I'm not sure if they translate to the AR version, but they would seem a bit twitchy for an AR anywhere but the bench.

That is not the match or the DMR. That is their new one.

Re: Timney or Jewell?

If one can hate a trigger, I hated my Jewell and one of the happiest days was ditching it.

Buy a Geissle or a Wilson or a JP you will be much happier in the end.
