After using this sling for a bit, I decided to do a quick review of it.
I chose this sling because my purpose for a sling is as a shooting aid first, carrying tool second. However, I still wanted to be able to carry the rifle in front of me in a ready position, so that ruled out a Turner NM or 1907 sling. The TIS slip cuff sling is very similar to a traditional two point sling, however it has a built in shooting loop. The AR version adds two quick release buckles, one in the loop to quickly get out of position, and another in the lower portion of the sling to quickly seperate the whole sling. They have also reinforced the loop in this version. Here is a picture on my rifle:
It is mounted via QD mounts on the left side of the rifle. After using it, I really prefer a sling mount on the left side of the rifle instead of bottom, even when used as a shooting aid. I no longer have to twist the sling loop before feeding my arm through it. I simply run my arm though and wrap it through the sling, and it feels perfectly comfortable and steady. My one complaint about the sling, is that the length of the front does not adjust quickly. Therefore, if change positions from prone to sitting or vice versa, it takes a bit to adjust the sling to appropriate length. Likewise, for carry, there is a small strap that is supposed to aid in quickly tightening or loosening the sling while on the body, but it does not work at all. I haven't really had a need to quickly tighten or loosen it, but I can see it being handy when climbing to a tree stand or such.
When using the sling, on the other hand, it is excellent. I wouldn't quite say its as steady as a Turner NM sling or No-pulse sling, but it's close. In fact it may actually be closer than I feel with this rifle, as it is considerably lighter than my NM rifles. I find I'm steadier with a heavier rifle, especially shooting prone with sling. It's performance has been quite good, this is a 10 shot group using LC M855 using only the sling, no shooting jacket, no glove, no bipod, no rests. Shot with the scope on 6X at 100 yards.
9 out of 10 of the shots are in a Sub-MOA group. Not sure what happened with the flyer, I didn't call a pull on it, but M855 is not exactly the most consistent of ammo.
In the end, if I were to grade the sling, it would be a B+. If I could find some way to make it easier and quicker to adjust, it would get an A. I'm considering buying a VCAS sling, and just cannibalizing the adjustment peice from it to see if it would work on this one. Has anyone else used one of these? Or a similar sling.
