I believe his account was hacked possibly. Anyway got me for 950$ everything seemed legit and matched up. Would be nice to have some protections on this stuff since we now have to pay to sell.

We as buyers are just gonna have to be more diligent, these dudes are learning how we communicate with chat GTP and other AI shit. I nearly got had the other day but noticed there was a fee on the PayPal friends and family transaction indicating the individual was outside the country. When I asked him about it he said he had a house in Spain as well that was linked to his PayPal so all his transactions looked like that, but at the same time he was messaging other 2nd and 3rd place buyers in the thread trying to get money. Guess he realized I smelled a rat. 3rd dude in line to buy was a good friend of mine and text me about it so I reported everything. This scammer’s communication style/language/grammar didn’t throw up any red flags to me. Only flag was the PayPal transaction. Just one example of how the scammer is evolving.

Does it say out of country fee? Every time I send PayPal friends and family there is a small charge

Dang I saw that fee to but I just assumed PayPal changed some policy or something. I definitely had warning signs in front of me I just didn’t know it at the time. Probably done buying on here honestly. I’m soured. People freaking suck.

How about adding 2FA to the Hide login process? This fresh batch of scams and scam attempts all seem to have the same stink of them using hacked accounts. To car16smg’s point, if scammers are using AI to draft more believable convo, and it’s this easy for them to hijack a legit account with history and feedback, then we are running out of tools to protect ourselves as buyers, and private sellers’ reputations from years of honest transactions are all at risk too. This is fucking bullshit.

Yea, I thought the same, so I tested sending to one of my friends and there was no fee so that’s how I knew something was amiss.

I used to spot them a mile away because of the broken sentences etc. Never even thought of using ai for something like this. Pretty wild the lengths people go to steal.

Yea, easy money. They just post something good cheap and we flock to it like buzzards to a fuckin gut wagon lol

Speed and hot items tend to keep these guys in business. Reddit had a TON of scammers on GAFS - especially NF scopes. One scammer screwed five people over from just one post, it was a NF 5-25 for 2k last year. That is 10k just from one damn ad! They all paid PP FF.

Doesn't help that PP gives two shits about the 2A community.

For what it’s worth, if you do send money via FF, there’s a good chance you can still recover that money or stop the payment if you move remove/transer the funds from the account it was drawn from quickly. PayPal generally takes a day or more to actually withdraw funds from your account.

Got scammed last week, talked to PayPal about it, worthless. Tried to at least get them to shut down or look into the account as I saw it was still being used after my run in, nothing. She did give me a .gov site to report them on but basically said I had no leg to stand on in getting money back. She did say that had I not used D&G they would have been able to help. +1 for “people suck”

If it’s too good of a deal, then it’s too good of a deal. Sooner or later they’re going to be taking peoples money buy offering $25 off retail. Or hell even mark shit up.

That’s an interesting idea. We could do like midwayusa and have a note like “add to cart for price” lol

Unfortunately it was used from my PayPal balance.

This posts are not helpful and you guys really suck at providing evidence of an issue

The account actually doesn't show hacked until I look at the IP where it changes to a VPN and moves around until it settles back into the right area again.

I banned the account, but saying a specific account is "Hacked" or Compromised without any evidence is not helpful. In this case the email does not appeared to have been changed. That is usually the first clue the change log shows where they take over the account. In this case they might have had his password from a previous hack on another side. They buy the hacked information on the dark web.

The tactics are similar where ever we are looking scammers do the same thing with new names. Either a spoofed account, fake account, hacked account, they try to get between you and the transaction. It's harder to see with hacked accounts because the post count is high, but in every other case, piece of cake if you pay attention.

Another reason I hate these posts, you fear monger vs educate, you think you are educating you are fear mongering and what will happen from this post is we'll get 10 reports from people seeing ghosts. They will report every twitch they see making it harder to find the real scammers. Also scammers will report real accounts that get in the way. If you nail them a few times they will report you back especially if you are public about it.

When reporting hacked accounts you have to be specific, we only can see a limited amount of fields that could be changed, otherwise we have to go by what we see. If you just say, Hacked Account, or scammer, we have very little to look at. If you say they interacted with me in this following ways, we can look.

This particular account the only change i can see right now is the IP Moved from the US to the EU and then back. No email changes, nothing else until we dig deeper.

They ware working to update the PX and change some stuff so, we are working the issue, but you have to be vigilant

There are no fucking deals in 2025 on the internet for gun stuff, absolutely NONE, so stop chasing them. They use your own greed against you. Nothing is moving so fast you have to chase a deal and throw your money at it. Do your homework, vetting takes 10 minutes, go ask AI to trace the account. I use Grok to answer everything now.

2FA is a helpful feature you have enabled for any account holder that chooses to use it, thank you. Do you think it would be an additional aid to have a 2FA insignia next to an account user ID with the date it went into effect for an additional layer of integrity? It may have limited value in the beginning, but as that authentication date ages it would give more credibility.

Of course, if an account is hacked, the hacker could use 2FA and get the insignia and an inception date as well, but the scammers are looking for a quick score so that perhaps would be less likely.

we have 2FA on the site
I understand, I acknowledged that.

What is not known from a buyer’s point of view is if a seller is using 2FA and if not, that makes the account much more susceptible to hacking as you know. A hacked account with excellent feedback is an area where the success of the scammers is working.

Ebay has the trust ID insignia that verifies criteria of an account holder and I understand you may not want to get into all of that. An insignia or brief message such as “2FA since 2/15/20” could give more assurance to a person making a purchase.

I have 2FA turned on and for some reason the other week when trying to log in, I wasn't receiving any codes to my email. 2FA isn't the end all be all, the codes can be intercepted. I'm not sure what happened, I submitted a help ticket and a few days later was able to get back in.

people personally know this guy and have said his account was hacked. I was just warning people so they wouldn’t make the same mistake as me. The item offered wasn’t necessarily a deal but priced pretty appropriately. Not sure why it’s such a big deal to let people know. Next time I guess I’ll let it go and let the next guy get screwed.

They had a site email issue that affected all of us...I too couldn't get my 2FA codes and had to use one of my back up codes...then a couple of days later I got a set of delayed 2FA code emails when they cleared up the problem.

It's funny, because that reddit has had a rule requiring photos showing hand written timestamps and serial numbers on optics since years ago. Guess that requirement didn't help very much, though some scammers are getting better at faking them in the first place, and obviously doesn't help if someone builds up feedback and actually has the item, but intends to screw everyone.
