The SHORTY RIFLE THREAD IS MY FAVORITE THREAD...PERIOD...
OK...I think I want an Accu-Trigger for my next build, already have a LA Tactical stocked 308/243AI switch barrel rifle for target, long range, FTR and F Class...I want a hunting rifle, a walking the woods, climbing the hills...hunting rifle.
Scrounging up parts for a Savage M40ish 16" heavy barreled Hunter in 308...Monte Carlo style M40 clone stock, SA, 16" threaded barrel, 10X Mil/Mil scope. Primary use is deer hunting here in Virginia/NC and maybe a trip to NZ's South Island to hunt as we go there a couple of times a year...want something light(er) but still capable of some longer shots, its a mix of forest and alpine hunting there...
I have been trying to find an accu-trigger SA as I was thinking of getting the target red blade, sear and spring to get a really nice trigger pull, also saving a few ounces in overall weight...the classifieds has them rarely...or get a Flat Back LA and an SAV-2 and tune it?
The classified has very OFTEN older flat back LA's...there are also more donor Monte Carlo style stocks out there in LA too...this would also allow me to barrel it in 30-06 for a little more umph...I know all the arguments about shorter barrels and FPS losses...the 30-06 out of a 16" barrel is still 200-300 or more FPS faster than 308 out fo a 16" barrel with the same bullet weights...
So is waiting for the right deal on an Accu-Trigger SA worth the weight (pun intended)? Or just pull the trigger (again, pun intended) on a Flat Back LA or the next Accu-Trigger LA that comes along and go with 30-06?
Something like this...
Or like this except Savage vs Rem...
