I am ordering a AA 6.5 Grendel 19.5 and am going to top it off with a leupold mark4 4.5-14x50. I would like to be able to reach out to 600-800 yards with this setup. Should I have a rail with some form of MOA built into it or not??? Also, what would be a good ring selection for this application, QD is not a priority. - thanks in advance!!

Re: To have or not to have MOA rail

The mark 4 will have more than enough elevation to deal with a 20moa rail.

I typically just put a 20moa rail on even if I don't think I'll need it just because as long as the scope has enough adjustment to compensate for the rail and get a good 100yd zero, there's no downside.

Re: To have or not to have MOA rail

The scope you specify has 100MOA of total adjustment. This means you could get to 1000 yards and beyond without any canted rail whatsoever. I would suggest a one piece scope mount like ArmaLite has, I found those to worke very well and they only cost about $90, last time I looked.

If nou need to have a canted rail, here is what I have been using on my match rifle. I selected the 20 MOA rail insert.
Brownells modular base.

You need two pieces; the mount rail base and then which ever insert you want. You screw the insert into the base and then clamp the base to your flat top rail.

I selected these rings because they had the same look and finish as the rail.
Brownells rings.

QD was not a requirement for me, but they come off and get back on easily enough.

Re: To have or not to have MOA rail

I was looking at a few different LaRue bases/mounts. Do make any that have MOA built into it? I would much rather, if I could, have it one piece or at least as few pieces as possible. If you have any other suggestions please reply! thanks
