just wondering what do you all take to the range or field with you? do you have a tool thats an all in one? a small kit? i know some brands and stuff have been mentioned on the Everyday Sniper podcast just curious what you find works and so on.

its not exactly gunsmithingso please move or delete if not appropriate but this was the closest thing in my mind so i decided to ask here :)

Cheers, Jo.

I took an old range bag and put in a torque wrench and sockets, timer, glasses, earplugs, a Brownells screwdriver set, a nylon pouch with lots of torx, US, and metric hex wrenches, three bore snakes, a multitool, springs and assorted parts for 1911s, stapler and staples, target pasters, and a bipod. For a quick trip there is room for some limited ammo, one or two firearms, and a scope. I also take another bag with rear bags, LRF, windmeter, electronic ear muffs, notebook and pens, mat, brass bag, and my spotting scope and small tripod. Not exactly a toolkit :)

My tool kit fits in a soft sided zip up pouch. Probably 3"x5"x1". It contains wrenches, driver bits, allen keys and punches to field strip everything I own, tighten scope mounts and rings and adjust iron sights. You could stick it in your back pocket! It rides in a medic's bag with muffs, molded plugs, tripod, bore snakes, glasses, speedloaders, CLP and a couple of rags. I doesn't have to be complicated!

I used to take more with me, I had a toolbox but I stopped that a long time ago. I take a carboard box with some ammo, stapler, chrono, other random stuff, and if any tools are needed I'll throw them in there too. I have a cleaning kit that KAC sent me with the M110 and that thing is so well stocked I just carry it most of the time now. I threw a few more parts in it to make it good for more than just the 7.62. Usually the tools I need are for mounting optics, if I need 'em at all.

If I'm gonna be farther out in the sticks, a long drive, I tend to carry more stuff.

I usually have a couple rifles at least, so I can always just put one away and work on it when I get home, which is what I do, unless it's a quick fix with what I have.

I used to know a guy that came well stocked to SDM ranges back in the day and he had his whole truck bed converted into a mobile shop basically. Vice for rebarreling actions, toolboxes full of tools and small trays full of parts. He helped out more than one guy on the range when his rifle took a shit, and he wasn't even in the army. At least I don't think he was.

I take my wheeler fat wrench and then I pack the other odd bits that arent already included in its little tray. Always have it all right there in a little hand held box.

That's the torque wrench I take. I can remove and mount a scope and torque action and scope ring screws. I can strip a 1911 or a Sig pistol down to the frame and reassemble it. I can strip an AR down to the frame and reassemble it. I don't take a barrel wrench. That requires a bigger torque wrench and an action tool and I usually don't do that at the range. If I am going into the field, I take a 5x7x1 bag with minimum stuff.

These are the tits. I have 2. One stays in the truck for any class we run and the other stays in my pack.
We have put STUPID amounts of torque on a couple of the smaller Torx drive bits trying to get stuck screws out and they did not shear/deform at all while others did. This makes me think they put extra care into the specs for the entire kit.

Agreed. I have one of these kits and they are great. It replaced a drawer full of individual tools.

I’m a firm believer that it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

This is the tool kit that I keep in the back of my truck at all times. I have it sitting beside me when I’m shooting and take it in when I clean the rifles then back to the truck it goes.

I was able to help someone out recently...

I use a drag bag for my precision rifle bag. In it I have everything I need to support my bolt gun: data book, ammo & mags, LRF, weather meter, rear bag, etc. As far as tools I carry inside it, I currently have:
Wheeler FAT wrench set
Nikon BLACK LensPen
Small roll of black electrical tape to secure diopters
Small tube of blue Loctite
Bondhus GorillaGrip hex/torx wrenches
12' metal measuring tape to measure target dimensions

I use a 5.11 pouch to hold all of this. It's a pretty nice grab-n-go solution. Just take the rifle out of the safe and put it in the bag.
