I recieved my 20" SS MWS barrel yesterday and got a chance to run a bore brush and patches down it today for it's initial cleaning. Now that I have the bore clean, I can easily see some kind of tooling marks on 4 of the 5 lands just about 1/4" past where the rifling starts.

I don't have a camera good enough to take pics, but the marks are almost like the lands are smeared just a little bit. I emailed lmt, but I am antsy to shoot it.

Will I be okay to go ahead and fire it, or should I wait and see what the response is? Is there any kind of warranty I can fall back on if it turns out to shoot bad?

Will firing the rifle maybe clear up those marks and make the problem go away?

ETA: Just to be clear, I am not bashing LMT nor am I out to make a statement. I am curious about what to do at this point.

I have decided thats probably the best approach. Called LMT and they said to try back next tues because the crew was out of town at the shot show. A little bummed I'm not going to get to try it out just yet, but I want it to be right when I do get to shoot it.

Not sure about exactly what you are seeing, but be assured that every barrel ever made has tooling marks. That being said, my LMT CS 5 grove barrel has almost flat looking lands that are pretty prominent when looking down the bore. The barrel shoots 3/4 moa at 100. I'd say shoot the thing, but Tuesday is only 5 days away so you may want to wait at this point. I think you will find out you are GTG.

I was able to get a pic showing roughly what I'm talking about. In person the marks are much easier to see, but my camera isn't that good.

The dark spots at the end of the red arrows are the problem marks I am talking about.

The lands are very crisp and well defined up until the tooling marks where they become "smushed" down and then jump back to crisp rifling before entering the chamber area. (imagine coming down the barrel from the muzzle to chamber).

Definitely wait!. I contacted LMT about a problem I was having with one of my rifles cycling and I sent them some pics. Long story short they commented that I had "done a lot of custom work to my lower"... I changed the pistol grip and added a Magpul Bad Lever.

You don't want to give them a reason to get squirrely and try to blame you.

that looks just about the length of a reamer pilot where the marks are, or more that looks about the distance from the throat where a pilot would be a possible culprit. perhaps the bore got a little tighter than the pilot they chose..
