What are the best cans out there for 22 LR? Want to put it on a bolt gun for my daughter and might be fun to throw on a pistol.

Quietness, accuracy, and lightweight are my primary concerns. The TBAC one looks good. Others worth considering?

How quiet are 22 cans? I have cans for 5.56, 300 win, and 6.5 and still wear ear pro with all of them - as you know, they are much quieter, but still enough to make your ears ring. Wondering how a suppressed 22 compares.

Pretty much any rimfire can on a bolt rifle will be truly “movie quiet.” Like, spooky quiet. Hear the pin drop. Hear the bullet smack the target. Don’t hear the report.

I’m not going to give a model recommendation. My suggestion is to not over think it. Get a dedicated rimfire can and be happy. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the known players.

I think they're all pretty good on a 22lr. I would look for one that is safe to clean in an ultra sonic cleaner. That probably excludes anything aluminum internally.

I use a TBAC Ultra 7 223 on my Bergara B14R 22LR. it is MUCH more quiet than my wifes Gamo 22 cal pellet rifle with its integral modulator. Usually, the bullet impact is louder than the rifle being fired.

With rimfire cans materials and maintenance are priority. 22LR is dirty and you will need to clean more often than your centerfire cans. Pick one that breaks down nicely for cleaning and has robust materials that can handle "the dip" (hydrogen peroxide/vinegar) or other aggressive cleaning methods - avoid aluminum for this reason. No ear pro required on suppressed 22LR and it's about as much fun as you can have shooting. Its also a great way to introduce new shooters or children to shooting without the harsh sound and recoil of bigger cartridges.

Top 3 in no particular order... TBAC 22TD, Dead Air Mask HD, Otter Creek Labs Titanium 22. Can't go wrong with any of them.

A good .22 can with subsonic ammo will sound about like a pneumatic stapler. It's almost hollywood quiet. You won't need earpro.

I currently have 2 of the TBAC 22TD cans, and a Dead Air Mask HD. Will end up getting an OCL Titanium 22 sooner or later.

I have the TBAC 22 takedown and griffin Optimus micro.

My favorite is the TBAC. They don’t sound different to me. But the TBAC is much lighter and works nice on my Ruger MKIV as well as my bolt guns.

After cleaning both several times the TBAC is easier to disassemble and clean

With SK red box which is subsonic the firing pin dropping and round hitting the target are the loudest noises you hear

I am not an expert, but I own a few 22LR cans and a relative owns a Sparrow that I get to compare on different hosts. I have a dead air mask and TBAC 22 takedown. I bought the mask first and have absolutely loved it. I always dismissed the wisdom that you will never buy only one can..... I was so wrong. The Mask was so much fun to shoot that I quickly purchased the TBAC 22 TD.

The TBAC feels a little lighter but they all seem very light to me.

The TBAC is quieter on ALL my hosts. Ruger Mark IV, SIG 522, M&P 15-22, Tikka T1X, Rem 22lr bolt action, Browning Buckmark, etc... My son and cousins with young ears (25Y-35Y) say the difference is large. I think the difference is minimal but I can still notice it with my old ears. I mainly run CCI standard at 1070 fps(listed speeds) and Norma Tac-22 at 1082fps(listed speeds). My cousin's Sparrow is quiet too but we all think it has a first round pop that the TBAC and Mask don't. When I shoot higher velocity ammo (>1125fps) they all "crack" which makes it less pleasant on the ears.

I do not shoot supers without hearing protection. I shoot the CCI and Norma rounds listed above without hearing protection. I'm no expert. Maybe that is a mistake???

I have only shot a handful of considerably slower "subs" through the hosts above. I didn't notice much noise difference. I actually think the semi-auto action noise is louder than the rounds but that could all be in my mind.

I have no accuracy issues with any of my combos with the TBAC, MASK, or Sparrow with the CCI standard and Norma Tac-22 loads. There are some minor POI shifts but they are consistent. The slower subs (ex. 710fps) drop off a lot quicker with any kind of distance and accuracy suffers for me. That's why I like the CCI standard and Norma rounds.....still up there on the speed but just below the point where they crack and hurt my ears and relatively affordable. I'm just shooting for fun.....no competition.

If you buy a 22LR can be warned.....you will likely want to buy another one. I'd start with the TBAC first. Then my next purchase would be the OCL if the reviews continue to be positive over time.

Just bought and certified an OCL Titanium rimfire can so now waiting. They haven’t been available for purchase but maybe a month so reviews and such are slim. However the few videos I’ve seen are impressive and from everything I’ve read OCL is a great company.

Mine get used on a Ruger Precision Rimfire in .17 HMR, Ruger American in .22LR and.22WSM, Ruger 10-22, S&W M&P 22 AR, and an FN502 pistol. My favorite is the Rugged Occulus. The OSS metered the quietest with my buddies noise meter but I really can't tell much difference with any of them when on the same gun except the ACC. It is an older can and is noticeably louder than the others. The modularity of the Occulus is a big part of why it is my favorite. I can run it in the short configuration when shooting the pistol to make it a little less front heavy or long configuration when I want the most suppression posible. Rugged also hasone of the best idiot proof warranties around. My biggest gripe with the TBAC is the rear endcap likes to come unscrewed from the can body when I go to remove it from the barrel. I have had to use pliers or a wrench on several occasions to get it off the barrel and have the marks on the endcap to prove it. I now try to keep the tool TBAC sends with the suppressor on the barrel before i screw the can on. Me personally I don't use the dip method but to each their own when it comes to cleaning. I usually will place the baffles in a sealed bag with Boretech rimfire cleaner then drop then in an ultrasonic cleaner after 200 or so rounds.

Decided I should get in line - just purchased the TBAC 22. It’s been about a year since my last Form 4, so curious to see what the wait will be this time once I certify.

You won't regret that one. They're excellent rimfire cans. I liked my first one so much, I bought a second one because it's a true 1" OD can, and it fits flush on my Ruger MK-IV SSH 3" and fits in my Tactical Solutions LowRider holster. The FDE doesn't match the Ruger, so I bought a black one to on it as a permanent setup. Just certified the black one about 20 days ago, been waiting on them to get back in stock forever. So waiting on that one to get approved in the next few months. Hopefully it will be quicker than my last few.

I forgot about that. The M&P 22s are threaded for a standard AR length bird cage or other muzzle device. When I first got the suppressor I called TBAC and they recommended the Dead Air adapter. I spun it on with a slight dab of blue lock tight and have had no issues since.

These are what I read about performing well. Wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from OCL or TBac; but I have not heard them, or read as much about their performance.

I do know that guys are building 6" rimfire cans that are quite impressive. And often times revered as more quiet than their F4 counterparts.

My TacSol Aeris is pretty quiet on a bolt gun; with subs it sounds like a pellet gun. 3” and 3oz makes it very handy. It is definitely not very quiet on pistols, though.

I Clean every session generally. Much easier to clean vs the can sitting around and 500 rounds later. Baffles get stuck together and much more build up

Soak baffles in CLR for 10 minutes. Rinse off with water using pick for stubborn built up carbon. Most of the time they’re clean though just with the soak. Let them dry on my bench

Spray with rem oil. Wipe off. Reassemble can. I’ll use a light coat of oil on the stack to help from sticking in the can. I also use anti seize on the end cap threads

I just brush/wipe the rest of the can will the soaking is going on

The big advantage to the Energetic Arms is it can be had "naked" meaning no cerakote. This will enable you to drop it in an ultrasound, with CLR no less, to clean it. Comes out looking brand spanking new and you don't have to worry about degrading the cerakote. It's also lighter than just about anything out there.

It doesn't leave me wanting for anything honestly. And with no coating, it's super easy to clean with an ultrasonic. I barely notice it's there in the longer configuration as it's only 4oz. Improves accuracy nicely as well. If I had a need for more 22LR cans, I'd just buy another. It's rated for 5.7 too.

I like OCL, but you can’t recommend a can that’s not even out in the wild yet. Also, “pew science” is a misnomer. I’m an actual scientist with a PhD. I’ve been trained like a drug dog to sniff out bullshit data and poke holes in experimental design. If i can’t replicate your data using your experimental design, then it’s not science.

Between my TBAC and griffin I’d say TBAC. Baffles also have lines and click into place for best consistency. Also the baffles clean up faster than the griffin

I bought an open ended wrench for my TBAC. The can likes to unscrew and leave the mount on the rifle. The wrench eliminates that hassle

Before and after cleaning my Rugged Oculus last time. No scrubbing, just throw in a jar with CLR, soak for an hour or so, rinse off and wipe dry. Like new.

I have a Liberty Regulator that has been great. Only shot on pistol so can't comment on rifle performance. Have had a Q Camino for like three years but still haven't shot it yet. LMAO

Aside from disassembly and cleaning differences, there's not a hell of a lot of noticeable sound difference between the best and worst.
I got a TSC Scoundrel on sale for $175, and side by side against a DA Mask, and a few others, using the same gun, (5 guys all had M&P 15/22s with different cans) same ammo, there was zero noticeable difference regardless of Db claims.


Grab whatever is cheap and easy to clean. They're all quiet, especially in a bolt gun.
