Got in stand at 6am, 25 mph winds had me begging for some dramamine, finally had adoe and 2 buttons walk in. Took shot on doe and felt good about it, heard the thump of a chest hit and climbed down 30 mins later. No arrow, no blood. Traced their escape about 100 yards with no blood found. Called my buddy with a bloodhound, and the dog finally hit a drop and started chasing an air scent. I followed the disturbed leaf steps and noticed one of the two buttons milling around 30 yds ahead of me. Signaled the dog to stop and checked with binocs..saw another and then saw the doe too. Could not see a wound right away and was holding tight till they scented the dog. White flags and more disturbed leaves

Went to the spot where the doe was standing and found a small puddle of dark blood. Tracked her to a field where I could glass her again, saw wound on the far side of where I shot, it was really high, most likely not fatal. I backed out and went home to get the 22's and my son to burn some time and maybe hit a squirrel in the mean time. On our return to same spot, found her again, feeding in a field, dried blood and acting normally. Son and I went after some squirrels, very windy, and they were NOT cooperating but I finally connected with a neck shot at 60 yds. I really wanted too score with the new revolver today but the shot was too far so I let the 22mag bark instead.

Going back in tomorrow to check on ninja doe and see if I can find her. I ready think I got muscle only or that fabled spot above lungs and below spine. Hopefully we find out in the am

Re: Tough day in the woods...

sighted Ninja doe again this morning, now worse for the wear, still walking around with the two buttons. looks like she hit the lottery. I'm not going to shoot at her again until shotgun comes in...i'm bones only in this patch for the rest of archery.
