Any input is welcome. other choices were leupold or bushnell both 30mm but I like the TR23 much better.

Re: TR23-2 scope

Scot,

Well you had me stumped, so I had to resort to Google; OK Trijicon TR23-2 5-20x50mm.

Don't have one, never used one. After looking at the Spec's, this is what I see:

1)Illuminated Mildot Reticle w/MOA adjustments.

2)SFP

3) And violates my Rule #1......Which is never, ever, buy a scope destined a long range rig, when the maker does not tell you the adjustment range. If they are keeping it a secret by not publishing it in their spec's, then they are apparently not proud of it.

But that's me, you are of course free to buy whatever you choose.

Any Medium Rings at least .885" high will certainly work, but lows might or might not. You have to run the math to be sure on the lows.

Good luck,

Bob

Re: TR23-2 scope

I bought one when they were relatively new a few years ago. It seemed to have pretty decent glass when I was looking through it at the store. But when I took it home and got more time to spend behind it, the glass was disappointing IMO.

I had the mildot version, so nothing special besides the self-illuminated center, with didn't really matter much IMO. A couple of my mildots were slightly off center as well. Also the knobs were MOA with a mil reticle. Internal adjustment is around 50 MOA, so not much to play with.

With the current new crop of FFP mil/mil scopes out there at a lower price point than the TR23, the TR23 wouldn't have even been considered.

Re: TR23-2 scope

After asking around I heard this scope has limited travel. I like the look and feel of this scope over what this shop has in stock and we are trading out. With a 20 moa base how much travel is needed for a 300 RUM to get to 1000.I would guess about 30 moa and this scope has 50moa(maybe) I prefer a SFP mildot and have no issue with rangeing at 10 x .I really do not want to out grow this scope. I am going to use this to replace a 3x9 50 leupold thats moving to my FNAR. Making the RUM my long range rig. I can't see burning 100 gr of powder for a 200 yd shot. Guess the next step is a call to trijicon. Thanks for your input.

Re: TR23-2 scope

Here is a videoscope I did through my TR23-2 scope. I also have the new SS 5-20x50mm.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPWPz1aiZbI

In a comparison between the two:

1. Glass:
SS has slightly better resolution, TR23-2 has better color and brightness.

2. Tube:
TR23-2 has a really strong, heavy duty tube. SS is what I consider to be "medium duty".

3. Travel:
My TR23-2 has 52MOA of travel while the SS has 28 mil which is 100 MOA.

4. Illumination:
TR23-2 illumination kicks the SS to the curb. Nice tritium light for darkness with the ability to open the fiber optics for very bright daytime illumination.

Conclusion:
The TR23-2 would be what I consider to be a Police Sniper scope that is extremely capable of low light shooting. The SS is more general long range scope.

For your RUM, the TR23-2 has enough travel to reach 1000 yards if mated with a 20 MOA base.

Re: TR23-2 scope

CanPopper,

Good evaluation, except for one small point:

"2. Tube:
TR23-2 has a really strong, heavy duty tube. SS is what I consider to be "medium duty"."

Unless you have sectioned both scopes, it's stretch for a 26.9 oz Trijicon 5-20x50mm, to have a significantly heavier tube than a 31.4 oz 5-20x50mm Super Sniper.

I mean for nearly 5 full oz in weight, the SS must have something heavier duty than the Trijicon, no???? It's not all battery, is it......

Remember, the Trijicon is shorter. The extra weight of the SS can simply be in the length, number of lenses, illumination module, and size of its knobs. The two scopes also have different coatings for the tubes.

I have them both so I've been tapping and banging on them for a while.

Don't go beyond a 20 MOA base. I was box testing the Trijicon and towards the outer edge, the reticle movement becomes nonlinear. (Meaning a 1/4" click isn't a 1/4" click anymore)

Also forgot to mention the Trijicon's field of view feels narrower compared to the SS. Eyebox comfort about the same.
