Is there an equivalent to the 40X in the M70 world? I'd really like to build a trainer for the winter. What would the suggestion be? I'd like to put it in a McM A3.

Thanks!

Re: Trainer for Win 70/FN SPR

The 40x of Winchesters is the 52, but I have no idea if they share a footprint, but I doubt it.

52s are about as good a rimfire action as you will find...period. Pick up a 52c or 52d (single shot) and have at it! Get it rebarreled with a contour to mimic your SPR.

Maybe McMillan will inlet an A3 for a 52 barreled action...if not them, I am sure Chad at Longrifles will do it for you.

A Ruger 77/22 mimics the action type and the safety. Good luck finding a McMillan type stock though. I'm not sure it's as accurate as a 40x or Win 52 thought. But it is quite a bit less expensive and the older models use a barrel similar to (but not inter-changeable) the Ruger 10-22.

Re: Trainer for Win 70/FN SPR

Winchester 52B's (made approx after the 1940's) are somewhat the 22rf version of the win 70 target rifles of the era, but bear in mind they have the walnut winchester marksman configuration stocks, which are virtually the same as the winchester centerfire hb or target models.
The same holds for the C, D and E prefix model 52's also. But the B's and C's come the closest to the High Power big brothers.

For what its worth, McM makes a winchester marksman stock so you can see the configuration. As far as the Mcm A3, I dont know.

I have a link below that will show you some 52 configurations.
