TRG 22 folder?

Well i have been looking at buying a sako trg 22 for awhile now. now that i am in a posisition to actually buy one i of course found a new option the folding stock version.

so i know i want a trg i just cant deciede between the folder and the standard stock.

any input would be really helpful

Well, I definitely think it is better, the question is whether or not it is worth it. It is more adjustable without having to buy spacers or anything else, and it includes a buttspike. I would be all over it if it were me.

I have the folder. Love it... but I got it at 'standard' price through an LE deal. I don't think I would have paid the extra, though the adjustability is great.

I basically never fold it except during the rare concealment exercise at a school or similar.

Just my $0.02.

The cool factor is really high but so is the price with the
folder. I like having a folder but the one I have now I only fold
to clean.

I shot that folder at a 1000 yard match Sunday morning and with my sorry ass and a guess at a load (never shot at 1K) I still managed 184-2x with switchy winds as my best relay. They are good to go although the stock is dificult to get used to using a sandbag.

Wait. I know you have seen what KRG is coming out with. If you are going to do it, get the fixed model and then buy the folding butt stock from KRG when it comes out. They are looking at less than 1K. That's a huge difference.

Now, personally, I have not had the need for a folder. Going from prone to other positions doesn't change my LOP drastically enough to constitute the increase in cost. If I had gotten the deal that Sirhr received, I would surely have purchased the folder instead.

I have been trying to conjure up the balls to see if I could install a KMW adjustable cheek kit in the fixed stock without buggering it up too much.

There are definately some benefits on the folder , but weather its worth it or not is up to you. I have a fixed stock and love it but have never had a chance to shoot the folder , that will soon change (hopefuly).I just dont have a need for the folder , I dont think I would fold it for any real reason. The most imoprtant part is that you have decided to get a TRG!

I have the older version (same as pictured in the OP) folder on a .338LM and it works. If you can get it without the Sako price tag, go for it and you'll not regret it. If you can't, stick with the standard and you'll not regret it.

The folder, at least mine, is rock solid. It is very easy to adjust and even micro adjust and means you don't have to have bags. The resale on a folder is better, but if you're going to keep it that doesn't matter.

The folder is heavier than the standard stock and takes more time to stabilize on bags (as previously mentioned)....and comes with a crazy price tag.

If I didn't have one already, I'd go with the standard stock and wait for the KRG folder and get that.

Another thing I should note is that when used in conjunction with the factory Sako bipod, it is really easy to rock left to right - especially with the rounded bottom on the folder's mono-pod.

Another thing, and this is speculation, if you get the new folder, make sure you get the new model bipod and visa versa with the older models because they changed the width of the bipod stance, so the newer one sits higher and could have an adverse effect on how the system adjusts when used together.

dtask, did you suggest that Diggler44 would ever keep a rifle? He goes through rifles and scopes like I go through an all you can eat buffet. Not something you'd ever want to see in person.

Nice! Well, in that case then I'd suggest the folder because when

regurgitated

back onto the market it'll hold better resale value. That, of course would, only be the case if the folder was purchased at a bargain to begin with.

I really like Sakos, and plan for a TRG one day. However I hear musings about a new model coming out before too long. I would only buy the TRG folder if the price was excellent.

AI came out with a new model, it makes sense that Sako would be trying to keep up. Hopefully a new version TRG would be a quality improvement. However I hear a few bad stories about the current parent company Beretta, and hope corporate mismanagement would not screw up a good thing.

The Trg Folder offers better adjustabilty than other rifles,its fast to deploy and Sako bipods dont wobble like the AI,once you push forward on the bipods you have a rock solid shooting position with micro adjustments.Like all weapond systems,you must taylor the the stock in length of pull and cheek weld to best suit your needs.The Trg folder is a great rifle but yes its expensive.

All I have heard is that they are working on it, and have prototypes being tested. They may be making some components so that accessories do not have to be Sako only. I suspect the changes will be significant, not like the TRG 21 to 22 improvements. These things typically would take a couple of years to develop, or more. So perhaps next year we could see something.

One Hide member had four TRG's for sale, for a third party. One was like new, two had never been shot. Sounds like the owner was a TRG enthusiast and was dumping his old stock before a new model came out, or the sale could be a coincidence (sure).

Lill-Rambo: Not sure there is an LE price, per se. But I got mine from a Beretta Rep who had used it as a demo unit for PD's. It had been fired, but not more than a few dozen rounds. It had (and still has) a small chip on the stock but had never had an optic mounted. How you demo it with no optic... I don't know!

He was getting a new demo unit in and let me have this for the 'retail' price of a new non-folder. So I jumped on it.

Euro-Optic has a great reputation in the Sako world... and on this forum. They are the ones to ask ref. LE pricing if there is any. Most companies/distributors have some kind of LE program.

The mono-pod is completely different.

I would suggest giving <span style="font-weight: bold">eurooptic</span> a call. They'll be able to clear all your questions for you regarding the new folder. I have zero experience with the new model folding stock, so I can't speak to it's advantages/disadvantages over the version I have.

I do though have a couple of the new bipods. I prefer the design & finish of the old model to the new.

I am not a TRG expert, but I read an earlier post regarding this issue. The tech persons at Beretta who stated that they are chrome lined does not have a clue about what they are talking about. They probably have never worked with metal, are only desk jockeys. The barrels would be chrome-moly/chrome molybdenum/or cro-mo.

Chrome lining a barrel reduces accuracy significantly, as it cannot be electroplated on evenly. Plenty good enough for machine guns, but not for precision rifles.

The barrels have never been chromelined , they are either SS or CM and are coldhammerforged , they are however very shiny/bright , and some one may have thought because of that they are chrome , BUT they are NOT chromelined .

well i handled both yesterday and i have to say i definetly prefer the folder. the quick adjustment system of the stock is fantastic, plus the pistol grip is sized really well for large hands (I am 6'5"). it weighs in at 11.75lbs unloaded so its not a feather but balanced very well since the folder is steel and locks up very tight.

now i just have to start saving because they damn sure aren't cheap.

I shot a friends folder after shooting my own fixed version for 3 years and I have to say I found my version more comfy (obviously) but was mightily impressed with the folder and how solid it felt. The range of adjustment was superb, if you cant get this stock to fit you are a freak. I inquired about upgrading my stock and worked out I could buy a bog standard black TRG for the cost of the folding stock, way too expensive for my blood.

well i bought a fixed one because a guy offered me a deal i couldn't refuse so now i just need to find somebody selling one of those old style bipods. will be taking it to the range tomorrow for its first shooting.

if anybody has a pet load with 155 scenars or 175smk it would help me cut down on the load development that would be great.

I have a folder on my TRG42 and I think that is outstanding.
Not so much for the folding part as for the quick adjustability of the LOP, and the but plate height.
ITs really great, and when you have the possibility of getting the right LOP you will realize that you need 1"-1.25" in difference betwen LOP in prone vs other positions.
So with the quick adjustable LOP all shootingpositions will certainly gain a lot.

The price tag i terrible, but the stock is great.
Unfortunately heavyer than the fixed stock.

diggler, congrats on getting a sako, you and your long arms could use the folder but for that price you can get the spacers and lots of practice ammo
my new pet load for the TRG22 is the one i got from Sunnysidescott, I used it to win Fclass match at 29 palms a couple weeks ago with it.
175 SMK:
win brass, 45gr varget, CCi BR primer, 2.815 COAL.
this load shot great, and a foot less drop, than the 44 gr of varget i used before, at 1000.

The full production version is still a little ways out. We don't have a solid timeline for the release as of yet so for now all we're saying is sometime next year. When we have a solid date it will be posted.

The picture above represents the latest gen currently in testing. I'll be putting one through its paces at the Mammoth Sniper Challenge in Jan if anybody wants to see it up close.

Sorry for late reply but 2 very sweet fclass loads Im using are
155gr Lapua Scenar. 46.2gr Vit 140 backed 40thou off the lands (2890fps)
175gr SMK, 45gr Vit 140, backed 20thou off lands (2680fps)
both out of my TRG, both shooting under 0.5 moa.

Then you have to add up factory accessories. At this point the AW might be less, especially if you stock up on magazines. Just something to think about.

Obviously going with a TRG-22 fixed stock is a different story.

The TRG-22 and AI AW are both very impressive out of the box rifles.

I would buy the TRG-22 fixed stock with after market accessories for the money. The folder would be nice if you have money to burn.
