Any tips for pulling a TRG22 barrel? It’s on there pretty tight. Using a KRG action wrench and SAC barrel vise. So far no luck. Can’t get it to budge.

I’ve read about making a relief cut. Can anyone show me a picture? I have a few machinist friends that can help me with that if needed.

This is just kind of frustrating because I wanted to get this all done myself and re-barrel with KRGs barrel and nit combo.

To make relief cut, remove the bolt, chuck the barreled action in the lathe so the action and 4-6" of the breach end of the barrel is in the workable space for the cross slide. Using a parting or grooving tool, make a plunge cut into the barrel as close to the action as you feel comfortable. The plunge/groove cut need only be as deep as the shoulder is high. Probably .125"-.175" or so.

That relief cut removes most of the compression pressure on the shoulder/action point of contact. Remove the barreled action from the lathe and try again with your barrel vise and action wrench.

My TRG also had a very tight barrel barrel fit.

I ended up applying some controlled heat from a propane torch to the front part of the action to get the action to expand marginally from the barrel threads. Then a swift yank on the 3 ft cheater bar attached to the action wrench.

Tikka(sako owned) uses crazy torque on barrel action fitment. Both of my tikkas required Smith to make a relief cut. They both spun right off with one hand on action wrench.
