Re: tricked out rem 581

My 581 was my first rifle. The only thing I have done to it was to put a Tasco 3-9x on it. I will probably pull that off now that I have two other scoped bolt .22s.

There isn't a lot out there for them. You will have to go semi-custom for the stock. And either go with the .22/Air rifle rings or find some scope base that is close and have it drilled and tapped.

Honestly I would just sell it and put that cash towards a Savage MkII or a Ruger 10/22. The 10/22 can be as tacticool as you can afford.

The more I think about the time I spent killing soda cans and walking through the briars hunting rabbits the less desire I have to change anything on mine.

Re: tricked out rem 581

I am in the process of building up my 581 right now. I purchased one here on the hide that was worked over by Brian Voelker. It has a Lilja straight taper 24" stainless 16 twist on it now. I'm waiting on a 20 moa base from 9mmHotrod, and a Rimfire Magnum Varmint from McMillian. After these parts come in. I'm going to have US Handgunner install one of his bolt handles and coat my barreled action. It should be a whole bunch of fun when it is finished.

Re: tricked out rem 581

I gave mine a make over but kept the original barrel. I made the stock out of some wood I laminated and added a rear pillar just behind the recoil lugs. 1/2 to 5/8 on my best days at 50yards but I consider that very good considering the abuse it has lived through since about 1977. I may rebarrel some day but I really dont see the need yet. Even are smaller baby squirrels are in major trouble out to 100yards and that works just fine for me.
