Trigger help for a Rem 700 SPS AAC-SD ... please.

Just got in my new Rem 700 SPS AAC-SD and all is well, except for something I'm sure you guys are familiar with -- a frickin' 6-7 pound trigger pull. Even adjusted, I could get it no lighter than about 5.5 before the adjustment screw fell out and sent me scurrying across the office floor. Put it back in and can get it no lower that 6.5. Did I lose something else, or just my mind.

Just gave up and ran to this site.

OK, the X-Mark Pro trigger sux, I get it. Now please someone send me to the right thread or a good advice piece on alternate triggers (Jewel, Timney, Jard, etc.). This Rem trigger is worse than some standard AR triggers.

I am spoiled by my CZ trigger that's 2 lbs. out of the box and a 3-oz. set trigger. With this SPS I'd be happy with anything under crisp 3 lbs.

I feel you're pain as I broke the shoe off my trigger the first time I had it out the stock so I just gave up and ordered a timney

I love my Jewel, but if you can, try a RifleBasics and a Timney. They're all good, but each is slightly different. You would do well with any of them but one might feel more right than the others.

Get a Timney. If you order from the factory, they will set the pull weight. You can install one yourself with a small punch, hammer, and a set of needle nose pliers.

I have the same rifle myself and hated the x mark
never could get the pull to anything worth a crap..
I ordered a Timney from them direct at 2# and
have never looked back..Did the install myself..
I like having the ribs on the trigger like before
the x mark. it is a little wider than stock also..

My Timney came from MidwayUSA at 2.2 lbs. It was the second upgrade after the stock.

+1 on the timney with your setup. Piece of cake to install. I ordered mine @ 1.5 lbs. Jewell is also a great trigger. If you had a bench rest setup I would have recommended it. Timney is a better tac trigger in my opinion.

I am putting this 20-inch barreled shooter in an AICS chassis of some sort (1.5 or 2.0). I had ordered a JP Enterprises Modular chassis but it does not fit well with a 20-inch barrel and the alignment is off a bit.

Because it is going into an AICS chassis does that make a difference as to whether I go with the Jewell or the Timney -- I see alot of votes for Timney here. I shoot mostly off a bench and want the detachable magazine option.

What do you plan on doing with this gun? Is it just going to the range and back? Are you going to hunt with it? Is this going to be a truck gun? Depending on how you answer these questions will dictate what kind of trigger is best for you. Your Timney 510, 518-16 and Rifle Basix are your all around trigger. Your Jewell and the CG Model 22 are more your deticated target gun triggers. These work best if you dont get them dirty, or so I have been told. Then you have the Jard and Huber concepts triggers. I really don't know how these triggers perform or what category they fall between because I don't have any first hand experience with either. I suggest you find some people with the above triggers on their guns and see if they will let you put a few rounds down range to see what you like the best, because we all know every one likes different things. Now me personal, I like the timney trigger( only if Geissele would make Remington 700 triggers ) Hope I helped some.

Thanks, Stroup. Most of my shooting is at the range from a bench and prairie dog shooting trips from a portable bench. Precision and accuracy are most important to me ... my days of hunting down here in Louisiana are long over. At 62 (a Marine combat vet in Vietnam) I have to use high-power optics. Not a competitive shooter really, but I want to give myself the best edge and want to shoot as good as I can with the equipment I can afford.

Your welcome, and thank you for serving. As a sidenote, you made a good choice in a rifle, but if you aren't getting the greatest of accuracy from it, head over to scout suppy company(scoutsupplycompany.com) and have them do their Stage 1 accurization service on it. You wont regret it.

Just ordered an adjustable Jewell trigger initially set at 1 pound -- I figured all dealers and companies fudge a bit on the trigger weight and that it will come in at 1.5 pounds or so. And that's good enough.

Will now check out Scout Supply.

I just completed a 700 TAC-AAC-SD build on a AICS and was going to get a new trigger,
but found erniethegunsmith.com He had a replacement trigger spring for $10.95 (including shipping).

I said, "for $11, why not give it a try" I did and it made a huge differance. I have it set to 1.5lbs, the pull is light, crisp and no ditectable creep. I'm sure the triggers mentioned above are superior, but it was the best $10.95 I ever spent on a gun.

I used to use Rifle Basix, but after getting 3 delivered with ultra light sears (slam-fire central before adjusting it out), Ive ordered a Timney for the next one. I realize its not a big deal to adjust them, but these were way, way below what was safe.

I used to subscribe to the thought of a trigger is a trigger till I bought a rifle from a co worker that had a Timney already installed. There was a huge difference.

Kinda like you beat your meat growing up like it owed you money. Till the 1st time you lay down with a lady. Sure the end result is the same but its so much better.

Xmark = the hand,gets the job done but if that's all you have known its good enough.

Timney = nice good looking lady gets the job done and a real pleasure leave you coming back for more.

I replaced my Rem AAC .308 factory trigger with a Timney and there was a marked difference in the quality of the trigger.

It's the difference between a Victoria Secret model and a Transvestite.

Guys, just a heads up on the Timney 510 and AICS stocks. The Timney has a little rod that extends diagonally when the safety is engaged. There is an area in the AICS stock where this little rod will hit and not allow you to fully engage the safety. You have 2 options. Dremel out a little bit of the contact area on the stock or grind down the safety rod. I chose the AICS stock because I didn't want to mess with the fire controls. Here is a description of it, very simple for everybody with half a brain to do.

Just did the same.
The Timney is a noticable improvement over the factory X Mark Pro that came on my AAC-SD rifle. Was not able to adjust it down any measurable amount from the way it came.
