Rifle Scopes Trijicon 4-16x50

Greetings all. I am a new member and glad to be part of the family. My question and statement is? I am a prior services Marine and I am very hard on equipment. I presently have a Daniel defense M4 V7 with a Trijicon 1-4 on it and I love the LPVO game for it. It is awesome to 400 yards. I trust the Trijicon products with my life due to using them in the Corps.


The real reason I am asking is because I have a strong interest in the long range shooting game. I have recently built a 6.5 Grendel because I wanted a weapon to stretch to further distance and still keep punch without going to the AR10 platform. I want to get away from the BDC and be more reliant on the mil usage. I am looking to get the 4-16x50 Trijicon in mil square reticle. I don’t really have the coin to spend in the thousands for an optic is this a good for me to start with and learn to use properly the mil usage. As I said I am hard on gear and do not use a rifle bag. My weapons are tools and not safe queens. I take a lot of tactical courses and am looking to take long range tactical courses as well as eventually competing in tactical games. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated before I make a bad decision in an optic.

If I didn’t mention this weapon is to fill the void between the range of the 5.56 @ it’s effective range and stretching from that 5-600 yards to 8-1000 yards. Effectively!

If you want to extend the range a little and learn to use a proper mrad reticle, you should really consider getting a FFP scope. Accupower is a very decent scope, but the reticle is in the Second Focal Plane and while that is a perfectly usable arrangement, given how much the market has advanced in recent years, it is a suboptimal way to go.

There is a good range of scopes in your basic price range with the best alround option in the same basic price range being Vortex PST Gen 2 3-15x44.

If you want to spend less than that, SWFA SS 3-15x42 has one hell of a track record and works like a charm.

If you want more magnification, consider Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50.

That all having been said, I think the 3-15x44 PST is just perfect for the Grendel.

Outstanding. I do appreciate the advice. I actually did look at the PST 3-15x44 I just wasn’t totally sure about the durability due to my uses and being hard on my gear. Due to the recommendation I will reconsider it. Along with it being ffp. Thank you for that tip as well. Will check out the SWFA as well. Yes my point is to be able to properly use MRAD to fullest potential also having a potential bomb proof piece of gear I don’t have to baby.

Can only speak for the SWFA 3-15 FFP and would also suggest the Bushnell LRHS/LRTS, which I have mounted on several Grendel’s. SWFA pretty bulletproof, but an outdated, but still useable reticle. Bushnell glass very good in price range, reticle simple tree, tracking good, turrets not bad. Can pick up SWFA’s for $500-550 here in good used shape, Bushy for $750ish. You’re going to do well with either, Grendel pretty useful as well.

Nothing in this world is really bombproof. I've seen everything go down over the years from $50 to $5000. Most scopes in the same price range are built to roughly the same durability level. There is some variability, but it really isn't a whole lot. Most of the durability differences are greatly amplified by fanboys of various brands who joyfully crap all over competing brands. I know the return rates for several brands and there really isn't much difference.

There are still a few turds out there, but a lot fewer than there were.

There is some variability, but it really isn't a whole lot. Most of the durability differences are greatly amplified by fanboys of various brands who joyfully crap all over competing brands. I know the return rates for several brands and there really isn't much difference.

Yes I totally agree with that. Nothing is totally bomb proof. I just know that I had another optic fail on me while kicking in doors EOTech. I refused to use again and I was issued an AKOG and it never let me down. It fell off the back of a troop carrier (my fault) it fell hard and retained zero and my 1-4 accupower took a couple falls at the range and same result is why I believe in them. Just my own experience. I do appreciate your input and do think I am leaning towards the Vortex 3-15 as you suggested at this point. I want to learn and get the most out of my platform as I can. I can’t get with the reticle of the SWFA I don’t think I can get use to that. I can more so get with the Vortex and can use that type. Thanks again!!

Also I do agree about the fan boys. I do not fall into the fan boy gig. I just want gear that works and won’t fail me constantly and won’t in danger my or my families life! I don’t care what name is on the product. I just care that it works and Work’s properly! Thanks again my brother!

Greetings again all! I have never forgotten this thread and a couple years later I wanted to give an update and another Thank you to all that helped me decide.

First I did a ton more research to figure out what I was truly wanting to do and how I was going to accomplish it. I would be using the Grendel to hunt, have fun on paper and a bit more reach than the 5.56. I have sence added a 6mmARC which was gifted to my youngest daughter this past Christmas. Along with these an AR 10 in 6.5CM. I did want to stay away form the heavier platform, but reaching out was found easier with this as I found through more research. The Grendel and ARC can and will do it, but the result is the CM does it just a bit better.
So all this said. I did take all advice here and I have not one regret what so ever! For the Grendel and the ARC I went with the Athlon Aries BTR 2.5-15 and for the Creedmoor I went with the Athlon Aries ETR 4.5-30 all in MRAD. I must say I love them all as does my daughter. The only thing I wish I did differently is the BTR's have a floating cross hair instead of the floating dot like the ETR. Not a deal breaker, but will be updating them and the mounts once funds are available. The mounts are Primary Arms 20 MOA mounts. They do the job pretty well.
I am in a better position now financially then when first posting and research gave me time to save and have 2 jobs that lead to higher pay hence the optic choices and adding other firearms. Now my problem is I now have to save again to upgrade mounts and get optics wanted to replace for the Grendel and ARC because my daughters addiction to the outdoors and shooting has reached or passed mine lol! So I have to spread the fun and excitement!!

So all in all I know this is very long winded, but this is a huge Thank You to you All!! Not just here, but on all of the other threads is where I got info on right tool for the job wanted don't.

Very cool your daughter enjoys the outdoors and shooting. I have a hard enough time getting my sons interested. All they care about is girls, music and social media..thats about the extent of their interest.
Never tried the Athlon scopes but I dont think Ive ever read an owner of one that didnt like them. They always get good reviews

Yes it is Very Cool!! Now I have to share the Mad money with her and main money with All hahahaha!! I also have to share my reloading cave with her. Now half of everything is hers in the use to be man dungeon!! I am loving every single minute of it!! My oldest daughter is like your boys. She only worries about her boyfriend and social media and she recently made me a Pop Pop!
