I'm looking at picking up another ACOG, specifically a TA55 for a 16" midweight build. Looking on the Trijicon site, the first thing I noticed was this scope is HUGE compared to other ACOGs. Its 26oz and 12" long, which dwarfs most other models. I'm not too concerned with the size, though. My main concern is how it compares with other ACOG models. I have a couple of TA01s, and a TA33. I'm hoping the eye relief is as good as the TA33, as the TA01 is almost too short.

Anyone actually running one of these scopes, and what's your opinion of them? How's the clarity and field of view, and do you feel its "too big" for an ACOG?

Re: Trijicon ACOG TA55?

Here's a comparison on my 16" Recon (DD 12, OPS 12th), with a TA11C. Keep in mind that the TA11 series are a good bit larger than the 4X TA31 ACOGs.

Here is one with the TA31A 4X.

The eye relief is more like the TA11 than the TA31.
As far as optical quality, you could say the 55 blows the rest of them away, but they are all excellent, especially the 55, particularly in low light!
If you really need a soldier proof all purpose (if BAC works for you) combat sight that actually can function as a precision weapon sight as well, the TA55 is for you.
I love mine, but have to admit it still doesn't have a dedicated platform for it.
I use it on my 16" Recon and MRP ARs, and a lot on a 14.5" suppressed blaster.
The TA55A BDC is pretty good out to 500 meters with M855 from a 14.5", if properly zeroed. The little 14.5" is loads of fun with the 55, suppressor, multiple mags of M855, and a rucksack to lay it on (prone).
The image is super bright, razor sharp, and even first timers can begin to get 2-300 meter hits repeatedly with very simple instruction.

Re: Trijicon ACOG TA55?

Thanks for the information. It looks like the TA55 will work great as a semi-precision optic out to 300-500 yards, and should be perfect on steel. The reticle looks very close to that on my TA33, which has been very easy to use.

I plan on using the optic mainly on a 16" gun with 77gr bullets, but will occasionally use 55-62gr loads. My go to load is 77gr SMKs over 24.2gr Varget, but I will alternate with 75gr Hornady's and TAC powder.
