I currently have a Pulsar Thermion XG50 and like it but want something more compact and less magnification. Found a new MK2 for $6K out the door and was ready to buy it and sell my Thermion but then went down the rabbit hole on the MK3….
Open to other options but love all things Trijicon and don’t care about recording, different palettes, etc. Just want something rugged and reliable with option for external battery.

I started in the trijicon world with a mk2 35mm and for most purposes it was all I needed. Eventually I upgraded to the mk3 35mm primarily to preserve more resale. But then finally I upgraded a second time to the mk3 60mm, which is a great long distance thermal spotter (they were 4.5x optical in those days).

But the difference between the gen1 mk2 35mm and the gen 1 mk3 35mm was practically nil ... and it cost $1000 ... so as a point analysis of that upgrade, I wouldn't do it if I had it to do over again !

So, I'd have no problem going with the mk2. BUT $6k sounds pretty steep ! I think I paid less than $5k for mine new. I guess the prices are going up !!! :D

Are you aware that there is a MKiii-genii IR hunter that has been in the market for about a year?

The differences compared to the original MKiii are significant.
