got the Leofoto SO-362CX inverted tripod with the help of a cert i picked up at a regional rimfire event. As i currently have an optics setup on another tripod and i bought this with the sole intention of learning & utilizing tripod rear when the stage calls for it.

are the MPA tripod locks worth it? is there maybe a 3d printed version people are using instead? or just try to move right - left and not screw it up lol

thoughts?

In my opinion, the tripod locks are a crutch. Might be useful, but it's another piece of gear to manage. There are effective techniques to keep all 3 legs on the ground at all times, just need some time with them.

A few tips I've learned:

Try to plan your stage to flow well with a tripod. Shoot right to left, and/or plan elevation changes to either move the tripod as little as possible, or to always be dragging it.

Keep your legs tight enough to support the weight of the entire tripod by grabbing 1 leg. That way, if you do have to "push" the tripod you can just pick it up, move it, and drag to final position without collapsing legs.

When manipulating the support leg into position, slightly lift the support leg and apply a slight torque towards the center of the tripod. This keeps the other legs on the ground where they belong.

This.
If you aren’t hunting/nrl then the quick easy deploy isn’t as important as the staying put, tighten the joints up a smidge so friction holds it in place unless intentional force is used on it.
