I'm looking to purchase a pair of 10x50 binoculars. They have to be of decent quality and they need to be threaded for a tripod.

Anyone know who makes them? I believe Steiner might but I haven't seen anything on their site that says they're tripod mountable.

You can go that route if you prefer, but personally, I'd try a different path. I would buy the best binos I could for the money I had set aside and then I'd get an adpater to mount them on my tripod. The adapters range in price from inexpensive at around $25 or so up to $100+ and will work with a huge array of different binos. Here are some examples:

Slapchop,

Most your binos have a 1/4"x20 female threaded hole under the front pivot pin cap. Steiners as well as most Leupolds do. A lot of the bino manufactures do not list this as a feature and not sure why not, but most have them. Using binos on a tripod certainly saves on arm and eye fatigue when observing for any length of time. We would hook our binos to a tripod and throw a vail over our heads and the bino body to cut the side light and then spend hours behind binos. Binos are not near as hard on your eyes and better suited for general observation than a spotting scope and when you locate what you are after then transition to the spotting scope for better detail. Let us know what you end up with.

I agree with ORD and Platypus. I have several pairs of binoculars, from a number of vendors. All of them, including an extremely inexpensive pair of Bushnell 10x50s (bought from Target, btw), have the aforementioned mounting point. Finding an adapter to mate the binocs with tripod is pretty easy, too.

Generally speaking, those with the built-in tripod mount are 20x or better, large and heavy, and mostly intended for astronomical or extremely long range viewing.
