That company has no reason whatsoever to divert from their business foundation of lighter weight ammunition for military aircraft utilization........

NOBODY in civilian world cares about carrying an extra pound in ammo weight when they are carrying 30lb 6GT 10 feet to the next stage.

If the price had come in at 2/3 or even 3/4 of FGMM for the same quality/consistency I would have bought some.

New is useless unless it provides a compelling benefit over the current state of the art.

I see absolutely nothing plastic-cased ammo can provide as a compelling benefit even at the same price of brass-cased cartridges.

When I signed up for their email list, I had envisioned it being more like what shellshock is doing with 9mm.
Cheaper than brass, and they sell tooling to reload that’s compatible with current presses.

If/when the military adopts it as part of the NGSW contract, it may still move that direction.

At $7.27/rd though it’s interesting that they’re doing it, but I’m not interested in being a customer.

They claim lightweight about 1000x on the website but I didn't see any mention of actual loaded round weight vs brass cases. Maybe I just didn't find it but that seems odd.

Not for personnel, nope.

This is not new technology, lol. Cutting weight for ammunition usage on aircraft has been through several technology flows.

The weight savings we are talking about only matters when the difference of a helicopter carrying (just for simplicity of numbers) 5000rds of standard brass cases at 2200lbs or carrying 7500rds of polymer cases at same 2200lbs.

This product belongs in the military marketing lane. That being said, weight savings is the obvious for our guys. Less obvious is the ability to divert away from the need to mine natural resources of copper and zinc . These resources are not exactly unlimited. Then Lake City is pressed to max out its production to meet demand.

With these factors taken into account an alternative technology in polymer casings is very desirable. Considering access to the polymers are more readily available in comparison to the current brass tech. It only benefits the industry to have an additional product developed and eventually will be more cost effective for commercial sales.

So has anyone solved the heat problem with polymer (and caseless) ammo?

As anyone who has had hot brass go down the back of their neck, brass & steel cased ammo take a lot of heat out of the weapon when it's ejected. Polymer ammo carries far less heat and caseless none at all. That heat has to go somewhere, and it goes into the barrel.

Everything I have read in the past about this talks about heat retention as an issue that results in lower sustained fire rates.

I saw the .50 cal stuff a few years ago.
Folks don't realize what a 30% reduction in weight nets you when you are shipping 100's of thousands of rounds to a war zone.
Even the slight weight savings going from 30'06 to .308 meant huge savings in transportation costs when you consider the sheer volume of ammunition.

The "normal" stuff is available now, it seems. Dropped a post on that in the wrong place it seems.
$3.50 a round for the "regular" and you can't reload it. The Nosler CC is something of a disappointment to me. If they thought the light was getting dim at the prospect of not winning the .mil contract, they'd better hope this stuff delivers every bit of the single digit SDs and match grade accuracy they claim while costing way more the Federal, Hornady, Black Hills, HSM, etc.

The galling thing for me is all the ad copy, er... excuse me, "objective reviews" that talk about how modern and efficient the production of the polymer case is... for the ammo to then be staggeringly more expensive. With a plain old Nosler CC in it, that's competing with FGMM @ less than half the cost.

If you are paying $3.50/round for plastic ammo, chances are you can afford it because you don't have a gag reflex

Mine's waiting on a "project" gun... most expensive ammo I've ever laid hands on. It'll have FGMM, Fed T308T, and TAP Precision 168 ELD-M to compete with once I get around to it... plus anything else I lay hands on meanwhile (really want some T308TTMK2).
