So I'm going to be getting a bonus and hopefully a tax return. I'm looking to spend a max of about 1600-1800 max best bang for the buck I have my first comp in February and want better glad and a FFP mill/mill been looking at the vortex vipers pretty hard. And a Leapuld mark 4. I don't need a 6-25x I'm looking more at 4-18x max

Re: Trying to decide what to get

Steve, it sounds like you only want this scope for competition, is that the case? Can you share what type of competition you are interested in and what distances you may be shooting at?

I just went through a whole review of several different scopes (including the Vortex 4-16x50mm PST) and the scope I ended up with was the Bushnell Elite Tactical 3.5-21x50mm, its glass is superb and easily beat the Vortex and rivaled the Schott glass used in Valdada and US Optics (notice I didn't say equaled or surpassed, but rivaled, meaning it came very close to my eyes, very, very close).

And if you do your homework here on the hide you can find it for less than $1200 which is not much more than the Vortex and well under your price point.

+1..

These are the reasons exactly why I went with the Bushnell myself. Excellent piece of kit for the cash.. Easily one of the best values per dollar out there IMO.

Quite honestly Steve I think you're going to be happy with any of the scopes you pick in this price range. During the day they all perform really well. Something to consider is illumination, based on your use you certainly do not need illumination so why pay the extra money for it and have the extra weight. For me, I wanted illumination, but in the end decided it wasn't worth the extra cost and considering that the Bushnell TE did so well in low light, I figured I'll see how long I can get away with it.

One other factor to consider, the Bushnell is pretty heavy at 35oz, but again, for me, was worth it to get the nice glass and zoom range.

Re: Trying to decide what to get

If you go the route of IOR/Valdada I would highly recommend the 3.5-18x50mm and would shy away from the 3-18x42mm, the reason is that the 3.5-18x50 is a newer design and maybe because of the 50mm objective or simply a better optical design this scope performed much better especially in low light.

I agree with joemusso, talk with Scott at Liberty Optics, he is a great guy to work with and will take care of you!

When I compared the two scopes (the Valdada 3.5-18x50mm and the Bushnell Elite Tactical 3.5-21x50mm) the BIG difference is the thickness of the reticle, I would say the Valdada was almost twice as thick as the Bushnell at full magnification. But I do love the MP-8 Dot. If Val were to come out with a 3.5-21x50mm with a "thinner" MP-8 dot in the Xtreme variety I would be all over that! Hint, hint.

Re: Trying to decide what to get

You would be very happy with a Nightforce F1. You are in the price bracket where you can buy a very good Nighforce used or even new scope with luck.
