All,

I know I've seen these before, but damned if I can find it again. I'm trying to locate a fabric version of the foil survival blanket/bags. I have a project in mind but the foil ones are just way too loud. Anyone know a place that has these?

Thanks,

db

Would the heat shield from a car, work? Because all of the survival blankets that I have seen are thin, and not really durable as any fabric.

This is going to need to be pretty large. Think along the lines of a sleeping bag liner. The closest thing I can think of (besides the blanket I saw once upon a time) is the reflective material photographers use with the giant flash units. The best way I can describe it... imagine a mylar blanket was "printed" onto a thin cloth. I may end up having to go with the tarp style, but the cloth would roll up so much nicer!

If you are looking for themal signature reduction you can go to an industrial welding supplier and buy what is commonly reffered to as welders cloth. It is extremely fire retardent and reduces thermal signature extremely well.

Years ago, there was a camouflage polar fleece material sold by the yard, that was "layered".

Outer layer was stronger and camo printed.
next layer in was waterproof on the outside, and 'silver' on the inside. (to reflect the heat back to you)
Inside layer is thicker and fuzzier for directly against the skin.

I have for years regretted not buying some of that stuff. But it was $58.00 a yard at the time, and I just didn't have the coin then. Maybe this type of thing can help you, and maybe, just maybe, you can find a current supplier (if so).
