I just finished my first precision sniper course and brought along my 300 win mag and it preformed fantasticlly but I'm looking for something much cheaper to shoot, little lighter on the shoulder to shoot all day and little better on barrels. I' have narrowed it down too a 6.5 cal, just narrowing it down but pretty sure it's going be 260. I am speaking to my gunsmith now but just have to decide weather to go with a blueprinted 700 or go with a bat or defiance? I already have a remington action but have always wanted a custom action just don't know if it's worth the extra money since I have a remington. Once I decide on action it will be a 28" Bartlein barrel, jewel trigger, mcmillan a5 or manners T4A or T5A. Should I save the money and blue print my action and possibly replace the bolt with a PTG bolt or go with a defiance or bat action?

If your starting with nothing, then the custom action is the way to go by the time you spend the money for the blue printing and the PTG bolt you are close to the range of a Stiller just about. Since you already have an action then it's just a money thing. I have done several of both and although the customs are really nice that part plays little in the accuracy part. You can spend the money on pillar bedding or muzzle brake or better bottom metal DBM! Your smith should be able to explain this to you for sure.

Good choice. If you get a heavy contour barrel you might not even need a muzzle brake, but perhaps you may want to thread and cap for a suppressor or APA Gen II bastard brake later on.

I already have a remington action
Then go with this. Going with a custom action makes better sense if you don't already have a doner action. IMO, the original bolt works just fine as long as you install an oversize bolt knob.[/QUOTE]

28" seems a little long. You could probably get away with 26 just fine. If you already have a remington trigger, I would have the gunsmith tune that up. If you don't Jewell triggers are great. You can't beat a MCM A5, esp. w/ Surgeon DBM!

I have a trued 700 action that was Teflon coated and a Defiance action that is cerakoted. The 700 does seem to be a bit easier to cycle due to the Teflon.
I went with a 300 Rum
manners T5a normal fill with mini-chassis
29" hart barrel magnum 1000 contour (close to MTU)
Hollands muzzle brake
Jewell trigger
Night force scope and badger rings
I came in at 16.8 lbs

Obviously not the caliber you want . But with a trued 700, original bolt and unbedded stock I get .25 moa tested at 200 yards.

I was in similar situation before I placed my order. I was thinking about sending Jamie my 700 action to have done up. But after all was said and done I decided to go with a custom "BAT Tactical Action" and never looked back.

The bolt slides through the action as if it had butter all over it. Other guys I shoot with have Defiance Actions. You have chosen two great actions. IF, if you are gearing towards a sniper/tactical type rig/shooting/training then you may want to at least look at the BAT Tactical actions as they geared to this as opposed to BAT (Non-Tactical) Actions. JMO YES, it may take longer to get the action but it is worth the wait without a doubt.

If you are going full custom then last I would consider you go for what you WANT and not settle because this other option is cheaper - if you follow what I am saying. So what if it adds time to accumulate capital. BUY ONCE - CRY ONCE. I have no regrets in my decisions on my two custom rigs. Jamie built me two tack drivers.

As you can see below I went BAT Tactical all the way!

Hope this helps some...
