Hey guys, I've decided to buy a GPO 2.5-15x50. now I'm trying to figure out what Mount to buy for it. I've never ran something with a 50 mm objective on a AR style rifle. I'm finding all sorts of contradictory info on the internet.

Can I run a normal 1.5ish height cantilever mount with this objective size?

Is there any shootability or packaging reason that l might not want this big objective on this style rifle that I might not realize?

I ask that because l could also be happy with the GPO 3-18x44 if for some reason it made a lot more sense.

Yeah 1.50ish height is the “go to” for mount height on AR platform rifles. If it has a 50mm objective you will be fine. Just take into account as well the thickness of whatever cover or caps you want to run for clearance between the objective and rail.

Here's a S&B 3-20x50mm sitting in a 1.54 Geissele with 20moa. Even the Tenebraex fits

Easy. It mostly comes down to simple math. The standard 1.50" high mount is measured from the top of the picatinny rail to the center of the tube which means this could, in theory, support just under a 3" outer diameter scope which roughly equates to about 76mm, even most 56mm objectives don't come anywhere close to 76mm with tube thicknesses averaging 2-4mm thick, double that for the top and bottom and you're somewhere around 60-64mm outer diameter max for most 56mm scopes which means your 50mm scope is even smaller, you are good to go.

Not unless you wanted to streamline your rig more. Larger objective usually means heavier scope (but not always) so there's that.

Awesome guys! Thanks a ton.

Bonus question, does anybody think l will need more than the standard offset on the cantilever mount?

I figured that's probably what I would just buy and then send it back and swap it out if need be when I had it all in my hand. But if you guys have a good idea what I should start with. I'll order that.
