tungsten/solid copper rounds? thoughts?

Re: tungsten/solid copper rounds? thoughts?

Powell River Labs was one of the original patent holders on making the tungsten core bullets back in the 1990's. They carry very well at longer distances. But back then they were over $1 a piece for the projectile. That made it out of my price range.

Closer to 30x more expensive, by weight. Lead is dirt cheap and tungsten is...not.... Lead can be poored into a mold or pushed through a sizer. I can't even imagine how much harder is to machine a concentric tungsten head. $1/bullet today would ridiculously be cheap.

I agree. And especially considering that 750gr AMAXs are over $2 a bullet now.

Re: tungsten/solid copper rounds? thoughts?

if I don't go wrong, more than 100 years ago France employed a solid copper round, named 8mm. Lebel, for the first smokeless cartridge employed in a ordnance rifle_Some years after Germans,of course, produced and extensively employed specimens of their 8mm.Mauser ammo with a WIDIA core_ (WIDIA it's an acronym for WIE DIAMANT or AS DIAMOND in English,to indicate the hardness of this tungsten core)_ Best Regards

If you look at the third video in the linked article the solid copper 7.62 bullet is going to sell for $3.50 per bullet. Ahem, that is cheap compared to the tungsten variant which will sell for $17.50 per bullet and is only available for law enforcement and military.
