I've been watching You Tube and the Sniper matches. Gap Grind, Sniper Challenge, and a host of others.

Question one is. For a given stage, what range are you setting the parallax at? I see no one turning turrets? I mean like are you presetting the parallax to the longest target, or somewhere in between, say at the half way point for the targets on a stage.

Question two is. Slings? I see them on some of the rifles, but no one is taking the time to get slung up. Only thing I see them being used for is hanging bags from, and or shouldering the weapon form one stage to the next, or when the stage calls for a side arm. Theirs to many choices in the sling dept. Hard to make up ones mind on a wise choice.

A lot of people (myself included) aren't very good in utilization of slings. It doesn't take much effort to improve your shooting while using a sling, but takes a lot of work to master.

As for parallax, if you know your scope and know the target distance you can preset your parallax to be pretty close. Also, as long as you aren't shooting a large variation in target distances, the parallax will remain close enough.

I focus my scope for the target at the longest distance.

If you don't want to spend the time placing your arm through a sling loop, have a look at the new TAB sling with the quick-adjust fastener at the front: Drop into position, pull the tab on the fastener, and shoot; then pull the cord to release.

I use the VTAC padded sling for shooting positions. I have been able to out-shoot others because of it from a seated or kneeling position, by getting locked-in so tight, it feels like a shooting jacket with all your gear on.

I know shooters who dial-in their parallax for longer shots when they have the time as they watch the wind.

Depends on the stage. If its only longer range targets then I don't bother.

But in our last local match we had to hit steel at 760 710 660 600 and 500

But each time we hit the steel we had to come back to 100 yards and shoot at a paper target for score.

In that case I changed the paralax back to 100, and then back to the next steel yardage

For parallax, I try to adjust for every distance but when on time, I may choose to preset the parallax to some pre-determined distance depending on a number of variables. For slings, yes they are mostly used in these type matches to just carry the rifle. Some matches however do have positional stages where I will sling up for the shots.

Keep your power setting low and you wont have to mess with the paralllax as much. If you learn to hit at multiple distances useing mil dots or TMR you can engage at will, as well as having a wider field of view to address wind.
I carry my rifle without a sling for competition but with one for hunting.
