Two stage triggers for bolt actions?

I know the question might come up "why would you want one?". Well i really like my Giessele SSA-E in my MK12 and the first stage helps with consistent follow through for trigger pull or IMO it does. Are there any decent two stage triggers for Bolt actions that could be adjusted into the 1-2.5lb range?

I'm in the same boat and currently looking at the Huber Concepts 2-stage. You can get them in the 2,3,4# flavors. From what I recall they are not adjustable. Only take up..

+1 on the two stage CG Jackson design. Have not tried the Mod 22 version, though.

I have 2 of the CG triggers from Xtreme shooting. I really like them. I used to use Jewel triggers. One pierced primer and the Jewel can be ruined, ask me how I know. The CG has an adjustable length of travel first stage,that can be left adjusted completely out if desired. The second stage is adjustable in every aspect, weight of pull, sear engagement and over travel. On my F-TR guns I have them set with a nice 10 oz combined pull weight. They are well worth the money.

I only shoot 2 stage triggers and if its not a factory TRG or AI trigger it will be a Huber. I highly recomend them, they feel very similar to my TRG trigger and that says a lot. I feel that a 2 stage offers much more control in very cold weather when your fingers are numb or hurting like hell. They also aid in proper trigger control when shooting in high stress situations or very unstable positions. A good 2 stage is the only way to fly in my opinion!

Adjustability doesn't scare me at all. My SSA-E isn't adjustable. Going to look into huber and others thanks for the advise. Ill have to take a look at the the group buy.

Hows the durability of the huber triggers?

I have been wanting to try an Anschutz 5018 trigger on a centerfire rifle for a few years. I am working on a build right now that will likely have this. Argueably the finest two stage trigger ever made.

According to the Ashbury website their rifles come with Huber triggers. It is the nicest trigger I have felt outside of my trgs.

i have two of the x-treme mod22. over 5000 rnds on the first one in my 260AI match gun. absolutely no drama at all. as far as 'crisp' goes, it is the equal of the trigger in my wilson combat supergrade.

I also like the way it pulls (on the lever) and the fact that the trigger shoe is reversable for flat or curved face.

Just got to save up now. Really liking the concept of having a nice 1lb two stage trigger on my bolt rifle. Gets sort of frustrating going from my MK12 then to my bolt rifle or vice versa.

If you think that a two stage trigger increases lock time, then your not pulling on that trigger correctly.

I'm of the "why would you want it" crowd. I like the simple one stage "glass break" no creep, no overtravel trigger. Adding that second stage just doesn't make sense to me. Kind of defeats the purpose.

2-stage triggers were developed for military use over a hundred years ago when courses of fire required a rapid-fire stage (usually with a stripper clip load). This gave the shooter the ability to take out slack to clean up an iron-sight picture before the break.

The CG is an excellent trigger but has openings that can let in dirt and grit -- not really the ideal for combat or where you may have to transit in a vehicle or aircraft with lots of swirling dust and particulate. I don't have any experience with the Huber, but it appears sealed better.

I completely understand that. That's not what I mean. With today's rifles and what modern triggers are capable of, what is the draw ..... for those that use them. I don't because I can't stand the take up.

I'm new to long range shooting , and still making changes to the 700 I am learning with . It has a Jewell trigger set to 10 oz and has an amazing break and feel to it . That said I will be replacing it soon with a two stage unit in the near future . The progression from coming from mid range / varmint black rifles , I have become used to the two stage feel and have much better trigger control and follow through when I can preload the trigger . I have Geissele triggers in all my ARs , and they have just a good a break as the Jewell . Safety is another reason I prefer a two stage trigger . You can set the initial to 2 pounds , and the second at another 10 oz effectively makes it a 10 oz break , yet a very safe 2#10oz total . I am embarrassed to say , but with the Jewell set so low , I have had a few unplanned shots at the top of my respiratory pause by mistake . Spose its personal preference .

Personally is it preference and consistency for me. TRG, 700 w/hubers, ARs w/gieselle or armalite 2 stage. All 2 stage setup with similiar take ups and weights.

This ^ and not having to adjust your trigger pull/control when switching guns.

A 2 stage trigger of correct design like the AI, TRG, Huber, Anschutz ect. has every bit as good of a crisp or glass like break as any single stage trigger does, there is no difference in that area. Where the difference comes in is that a 2 stage help you locate the point at which the trigger is ready to break with much more control. Where this comes into its own as I said before is in very cold weather with a numb or gloved finger, or under stress such as physical stress of unstabel positions or elevated heart rate or mental stress. Some people say the trigger should supprise you when it breaks and that is fine for a beginner but I want to know and do know exactly when my trigger is going to break with out question. A proper 2 stage allows me much more precise control over this. If you have never had the chance to use a 2 stage trigger like the ones mentioned above (not a military style 2 stage as found in a M1 Garand or M1A ect, there is a difference) you need to give one an honest try. Im not saing they are for everyone but I am saing they do offer an advantage to a precision rifle shooter tring to push their limits.

I used to have my trigger pull down and knew when the trigger would break. 6 months without shooting and it's like starting all over again. Trigger pull inconsistent, being very surprised not watching my shots, etc. I can't wait to get a huber on the way.

I have always been using single stage on my bolt guns and now have a SAKO two stage set to 2 lbs first stage and .75 lbs second and I WILL never go back to a single. I believe it is psychological but I believe I shoot better with it. My only problem now is tuning my Geiselle to be like it...

Grunig&Elmiger factory sporting rifle with Anschutz 2 stage matchtrigger and 10 shot mags. Have a look at Swiss hardware: GE rifles

PSroperly designed 2 stage triggers are much safer than single stage triggers due to the fact that 2 stage triggers usually have at least 10 times more searengagement before first stage is pulled. Only when a 2 stage trigger is ready for second stage letoff it has the same sear engagement as a tuned single stage.

I like my Huber Tactical 2-stage for My Remmy, Geiselle for my AR's and my TRG's all have factory two-stage triggers.
