I took my JP LRP-07 and my LMT MWS to the range today, and they are very different .308s. The JP is so much lighter than the LMT, has a sweet single stage trigger and an 18" barrel. The LMT is heavy, has a decent two stage trigger, and a 16" CL barrel.

Both rifles have a US Optics SN-3s with the JNG reticle, both scopes sit in Spuhr mounts and I was using FGMM 168 grain ammo.

Scopes and ammo the same. The pink aim point was just under 1" square.

Fired 100 rounds FGMM, 40 rounds of A.E. 147 at some other shit just to check feeding/function.

How did they shoot? The JP is sort of a "race" gun, very slick, light, the JP trigger is one of the best in the biz. ARFX stock (hey, it fits me), using a home made rear pinch bag, scopes at 10X, 5 rounds out of one rifle, then 5 out of the other. No rush, 5 rounds in about a minute. The LMT is heavy, but compact, and off of a bench, the extra weight probably helped things. You could really feel the better JP trigger compared to the LMT. Neither rifle got too hot, would have stayed longer, started raining.
These aren't target rifles per se, don't have fine, target scopes, instead have fairly coarse reticles.
Going to work on a couple of diff hand loads, see if I can shrink the groups a little. Will try the JP trigger springs 1st, maybe I won't have to cough up the cash for a Geissele SD for the LMT.

Both shot great, the groups stayed consistent, have to give the JP a slight edge.
Tune up the LMT trigger and it would be real close.

YMMV

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

Great post...and thanks for taking the time to share with us, you might be perhaps the only one around to own not just the JP, and MWS, but to my knowledge at least one other Thoroughbred .308 gas gun in the KAC EMC.

Arguably the best .308 gaming rifle, and arguably the best .308 combat rifle.

I'm going to try to go Monday. Could be fun. Thanks for the heads up.

The 1st group I posted could have been around 3/8" if I had kept it together.

Got to slow it down...

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has a great group going then pulls a shot to fuck it all up. Both nice looking guns, would like to own a JP rifle someday.

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

awesome post.... one thing i noticed with my LMT is my groups really started to shine after about 200 to 300 rounds... if you just got the LMT, in my experience, give it about 200 rounds and i bet those groups will really tighten up some especially with a CL barrel.

kick ass posting, good job.

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

Really glad to see this write up. There is a JP LRP-07 in the classifieds that looks very similar to yours I've been keeping my eye on. Good to hear they are shooters.

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

997 great write up and side my side review....I always enjoy your post.

I am still very satisfied with my MWS, shoots way better than I can.

Going to the range tomorrow after being away for 6 weeks, work and Hurricane Isaac have been in the way.

Isaac put 6" of water and tadpoles in one of my air conditioned photo studios. Cameras, lights, and extension cords hate water!

Good shooting tomorrow, stay cool. I think I'm going again Monday, going to shoot Elfster's 6X5 round groups. Take care of that LMT, she'll treat you right.

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

Good info thanks for posting,
What bipod are you running on your LMT
I recently purchased a LMT MWS, traded in a Remy 700 LTR and looking at bipods. I had a Harris on the Remy but always looking.

Mine has the Bobro logo on it, but it sure looks like a GG&G to me. It is a little more stout than the Atlas/Harris bipods.

Check out the GG&G site, I think it's the Super Duty, or Heavy Duty, they make 2 or 3 diff models, right at $200. I like it on my LMT, fits it well, very stout, bigger than the Atlas, more sturdy than the Harris.

I like it a lot.

Thanks, Trident. They are like my kids, I love them all.

It is a pile of rifles. LOL.

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

Nice rifles. I'm curious to know if they both like the FGMM 168s the best or if that is what you happen to have on hand.

It would be interesting to see if the JP consistently comes out on top if you shoot with other loads (e.g., FGMM 175, etc).

Man, you are right. I've got a case of Black Hills, was saving it for what, I do not know, will shoot some it Thursday. I just picked up some 7.62X51 Federal, will try that as well.

Honestly, with a better trigger set-up, the LMT would probably stay right with the JP. But, it weights 3 lbs more, has 16" CL v. 18" JP Cryo barrel.

LMT was $2500, the JP was $3500. They both could use good BUIS, the LMT needs a better trigger.

I would bet they are pretty close in accuracy with their preferred ammo, but no way to know without trying. It will be interesting to see what you find.

I have considered getting an LMT, but haven't taken the leap yet. The $2500 seems like a great bang for the buck.

Thanks for sharing and nice shooting. Now if we could only get you to add a Gap10 and LaRue to the mix . . .

Re: Two Very Different .308s at the Range

I have the same trouble with my LMT. Usually @ 100 yards, 4 shots clover leafed and 1 flyer usually on the 4th or 5th shot opening the group up to about 1". Yet on the same day with the same hand loaded 168gr SMK's I can shot groups well under an inch or less 5 shot groups. Been that way since I got the LMT.
