Rifle Scopes UNDER $500 SCOPE

I know this has probably been beaten to death. I am looking for a scope for my 14year old daughters .260 . She has been to a few tactical matches with me and wants to try it. Unlike some on this site I'm not made of money,so she's not getting a NF like dads. Just point me in the right direction for a cheaper variable power scope? IF and that's a big IF she stays with it we will upgrade both the rifle and scope later.
It needs to have side focus,mil dot, 16x to 22x max similar to my NF which she learned on...So bushnell? Millet? Vortex? HELP!!

None of those scopes fit the O.P's requirements.
For the money, the Millet is going to be hard to beat. I don't have any experience with their LRS-1, but it's only real advantage over the TRS-1 is magnification. Other than that, the TRS-1 fits the bill for what you are looking for. It will serve its purpose well. I have two of them. overall, excellent scopes for what you pay. The are a little lacking in low light conditions, but the glass is nice, otherwise.
The currently available Vortex Vipers seem nice, but I don't care for their turrets, and i don't think you get $200 more scope - maybe a little better glass.

You could look at the Super Sniper scopes at SWFA. I've been using them for years. Sent 100 to Iraq on M-14's. They feature Mil-dot reticles and come in a range of magnifications, 10X, 16X, 20X and now have a 3x9 with HD lens. The last one is $599.00 but it it is a good deal.

Bushnell Tactical 4200 should fit the bill (a tad over 500), but I think that's one of the few that has all the options you were asking with the magnification you were wanting. It's a great scope, I love mine. It's a better scope than the Viper....now the PST is a different story, but than again were talking more money again. There's quite a few reviews done on the Bushnell by die hard NF guys that really like 4200/6500 Tacticals. I see better reviews about the Bushnell over the Millet, but have never looked through one.

I had a Millett TRS-1 and had to send it back. The glass was so cloudy above 10x power that it was unusable. Others have had good success.

For $500 range I'd look at a Vortex Viper 6.5-20. I own one and its very solid, the customer support and warranty are both rock solid as well. They come in a 44mm objective for $399 or a 50mm objective for $499.

If you must have the exposed target knobs then check out the Bushnell 4200 series, there are several that will fit your needs. Bushnell's customer service will eventually respond and resolve the problem but don't expect it to be painless.

The 4200 4-16x Tactical would be a good choice, at $519.

I just got a the Millet TRS-1 last week. The glass is as good as my Leupold and my Trijicon. I had the same dilema you did, it went on a secondary rifle and can't afford $2k for optics for every gun I have.

It zeroed in 6 shots to 200 yds. and held it perfect on 10X to 300 yds so far using the hold-over meathod. havent played with the turrets yet but they are solid, positive, and have ring locks.

The illumination is a tad bright for night and a bit dim for day use. And it is an SFP not an FFP. And its HEAVY. My only regret is that I didn't get the fixed 10x version like my gut said to.

Other than that I have been seriously impressed for the money I spent. I got if from SWFA sponsor here. under $315 shipped to my door.

How bout a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36 or 4.5-14x40. They have turret caps and hand-adjustable knobs that work well. These are really light and she'd probably appreciate that. These also do double duty as awesome hunting scopes.

I use a Weaver T-Series for F-Class ($350) and have no problem competing with the Nightforces. Maybe look at a Weaver Tactical: here is one for $300: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=598484 ... with MIL/MIL adjustments.

Nikon also has some great scopes in your price range.

I am sitting here watching my wife dry fire in preparation for an upcoming match.
The scope is a Vortex 5-20x44 with a mil-dot reticle.
I would not hesitate to recommend one to anyone looking for mid-range scope.

With that said, as I write this and discuss it with my wife, these are her thoughts: The scope (Vortex) is nice, but your daughter would be better of waiting until you/she can get a matched reticle/adjustments scope. My wife does not like having to think about scope adjustments in MOA after measuring in Mils for correction. Nor does she like the SFP for hold overs and adjustments.
My wife had a 5-25 falcon, and sold it, now waiting on a PST and is using the Viper in the meantime. She really doesn't like the SFP unmatched reticle/adjustments.

You might want to look at one of the new FFP Bushnell Elite 4200 3-12X44.

Luckily, The TRS-1 is available as a mil/mil scope, but to mil correctly, it would be on 10x.
I have a mil/moa TRS, I use it on 16x all the time and have had ZERO issues with it.
That being said, I also have a Falcon menace 4-14x that I just used in a class, it worked flawlessly and the glass is very good. I would recommend the following:
Nikon Buckmaster 6-18 (on sale at midway right now)
Millet TRS-1 mil/mil
Falcon 5-25
Vortex
Konus M-30 (also on sale at midway)
