I'm sure some of you have noticed that fly season has officially started. We're doing everything we can think of to kill the commie bastards but they're flooding into our shop like its the southern boarder.

We have sprays, strips, a bucket with soapy water, a bug assault rifle 2.0, fly swatters and a few other gimmicks thats are supposed to help. We've had some success stacking the bodies of our enemies, but they're numbers are to strong for our forces.

I'm willing to bet a jelly sandwich someone here has a little known secret to driving these bastards off!? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Go to the local feed store and by the traps you put the attractant in water and hang up , they also make bug zappers for flies.

We used a backhoe to get rid of the hookers... is 8ft not deep enough? I even took a shower, but to no avail, flys.

I'm no fly expert, some are BIG, some are small. The shop is out in the country so we're surrounded by crops and livestock. We tried to eliminate breeding grounds (manure pile) on our property, but they seem unusually thick this year

Flies will be attracted to the food, get trapped inside and eventually fall into the liquid. I personally have several of these in my house, and they have made a drastic difference in the amount of gnats and flies around the house.

We had something similar when I was a kid. This thing would fill with flies, disgusting. Worked well.

Forget the soapy water, use water with a bit of honey and the poison of your choice.

Another way I discovered is leave half a dark beer open. The sweetness draws them in, the aclhol knocks them out and they cant get back up the neck of the bottle. Then you can drink the beer for added protein...oh, wait.

The coolest way is to buy about 20 Venus Flytrap plants and let them feast.

Misters like they use around horse facilities, 55 gallon barrel of dippity do, mister line under the outside eves of the shop and a timer, mists every x seconds and blankets the area.

I worked at a care home where there was big wheel chair door that took forever to close. This time of year the flies would pile in. When it stored getting cool over night thousands of flies would congregate on the warm south facing wall of the house. I would get up at 5 a.m, go outside and swat the cold bastards util I couldn't find anymore. Drastically cut down on the flies harassing my guys, and made it more pleasant to go sit on the porch.

They make fly bags you can grab at the store, basically the jar posted above, just open top, hang way from areas you occupy, then fill with water. Order of operation is important. Dem fuggers stank.

Also hanging this bag well away help draw flies away from areas you don't want them. I hang them in the empty lots we own next to our house to pull the fly pressure away from the dogs.

Seriously though, I appreciate all the great feed back from you guys. That trap in the video you posted looks like a great solution, minus the $86 price tag. I'm hoping murdochs has something similar when I go in there later tonight.

I also like the hair spray flame thrower idea... might have to stop at the dollar store and get a few cans.

These little assholes are driving me nuts this year! They land inside my welding helmet and fuck with me mid weld. Maddening I tell ya!

take a ziplock sandwich bag, fill it halfway with water, drop in a dozen or so pennies — yes 1 cent pennies

seal up the bag and hang one in every doorway, up high hanging down above your head as you walk in
— the bag screws with their eyes, they think its a predator and won’t come in the door

If you split the seat of your pants, they will congregate there and stay out of your face!
There are chicken houses across the road from me, a few times a year we get inundated with swarms. I clean out the tractor supply bait traps, add fresh bait and they start immediately going into them, I can tell the difference in a few hours (there will be 1-2 inches of flies in a day. I've tried everything else with limited success, those traps are cheap and really do work.
