Unlimited budget .308. What you choosing?

As titles states. I’m solid on all calibers except .308. Open to bolt action or gas gun.

Not opposed to buying or building.

What I want out of the gun/intended purposes are:

1)Mainly going to LEO local shooting classes.
2)Paper punching and ringing steel at various distances.
3)I want the wow factor when I show up with the system.
4)20 inchish barrel.
5)Want the best accuracy possible.
6)Do not care about the weight of the rifle.

With that said, what you choosing?

AI, GAP, JP, Custom build, etc.

.308's are typically thought of as tactical rifles, not particularly a match dedicated rifle. Any AI and the tac ops rifle are truly battle rifles or could be used as one. Tac ops rifles are tough as shit. Bottom line, no action (even the 700s worked by tac ops) can take the abuse an AI can. Most any other action used (bar the BO m2008 and m2013) would be typically used in a match gun. Not to say some of them wouldn't be as good, just isn't in the forethought for tac rifles.

If the OP just wants a .308 to be like any other match rifle, pick one that you like and throw a .308 barrel on it and you will be good to go.

have a tac ops sierra 22' and a AX

for the wow factor the AI hands down, no one even looks at the tac ops when i bring it out

tac ops is ever so slightly more accurate with factory ammo but i cant shoot the difference regularly (that is a mute point if you reload)

AX is far more comfortable for ME because of the adjustments

i shoot the tac ops off the bench better, but other positions the AX fits ME better

if you want to play barbie with your rifle the AX is the way to go, no extra rails on the tac ops

if you want accuracy gas guns are not in this conversation

TacOps will hold its value better and probably be slightly more accurate.

But it's a 700. The AI bolt is like a high end safe door. It is smooth and strong.

I'd get a scar 20 or AI. F sending guns off for barrel changes

might sell the DTA, just dont shoot it much

both of those do not even belong in the same conversation/league as a tac ops or AI

also had a trg-42, that was a really nice rifle

kind of a mix of both tac and ai

Well I am sure you did not really mean "Unlimited Budget" but IF you did...I suggest getting a Lawyer and petition to have Lobaev Arms rifles added to the approved importable items under the Voluntary Restraint Agreement and then IF for some reason the BATFE, US Trade Commission and Russia do agree to add them, you get yourself one of the below.

If I could swing the cash, the Sako TRG M10 with the 20" barrel is what I would be all over. AIAX on a very very close second place. Based on the fact that I like the Sako ergos a bit better.
A regular TRG 22 with the factory folding stock would also be a great option.

I know AI makes a good gun but they are a dime a dozen and easy to find. A Tac Ops is something special. My Tac Ops action is every bit as smooth as the AI guns I have shot if not more so. Hell if money isn’t an issue get both. I also have a Tac Ops X-ray 66 in 300 Win Mag and his incredibly quiet integrally suppressed 22LR Green Hornet. When we were at SHOT a couple of years ago we asked the guys at the AI booth what was the most accurate rifle with factory ammo. They said Tac Ops....

Yes!! I just submitted my form 4 for this HK21E also got the 11E and 23E conversion kits. What other weapon is a sub moa sniper rifle and can lay down 800rds a minute with a flick of a switch!! Could have bought a whole bunch of AI or Tac Ops weapons for the cost of this masterpiece!!

Scope it. If 2nd and 3rd grears are active use a sandbag as front rest. With left hand on top of the handguard pressing it hard down on the sandbag and with the right hand pulling hard into the sholder there is no problem getting all bullets from 3 - 5 shot bursts into a ipsc target out to 600m.
Practice with tracers.
Elr "first burst kill" streches the effective range of NATO ball well beond any 308 boltaction sniper rifle. In the Norwegian NG I used a scoped MG34 in 308, and 6.5x55, with custom fitted matchbarrels as a long range sniperrifles. I also got to try the HK21 a few times with scope and used as a "sniper rifle".

Yes I plan on adding a scope mount. It is a T Dyer built transferable machine gun and thus the ATF form 4 necessary to transfer it to me here in the US. Never fired besides testing by Terry. I would to the opposite with my hands-I shoot rifles left handed.

If I had an unlimited budget for a 308, I would acquire all of these parts, then send them to Tac Ops for the build and to work their magic on:

-Curtis Vector SA
-(1) SS Krieger barrel 24” in a heavy palma contour
-(1) CF Proof barrel 20” in their sendero contour
-Gen2 APA fat bastard brakes
-KRG Habu chassis
-Atlas/ADM CAL bipod with HHC talon feet
-5-25 Khales (skmr3 reticle)
-34mm ARC M10 rings
-TBAC Ultra7 can
-A few cases of match ammo to get her broken in...???

I'd probably go with a GAP Gladius or Crusader. Or their M40A5 clone....

Pretty much anything by GAP.

I'd leave the AIAT for something more exotic, like 6/6.5 flavor.

+1 for a TRG-22. I've seen em on here and GB for just north of $2k. Snag one of those and some nice glass and you'll have $$$ leftover for ammo.
