Member Link Up Upstate SC longrange shooting

Welcome neighbor from Pickens County, the next county north of Anderson County SC.

GunSite Hills in Lexington GA goes out to 700+. No memberships but daily range fee applies. They have caliber limitations on their steel, my .338LM ist verboten.

Clinton House in Clinton SC has a 1,000 yard range. Membership plus range fee (reduced for members but even non members can book range time in two hour blocks). Again, no .338LM but that is welcome on the 1 mile range which I understand is open one day a month, scheduled irregularly.

I belong to Elbert County Gun Club in Elberton GA, about an hour from Anderson SC (I go right through there on my way). The range is only 400 yards but they hold monthly members-only 600 & 1,000 matches off site. The 600 matches are at GunSite Hills above. I haven't spoken to the Rifle Range Officer whether my .338LM is welcome at the 1,000 matches.

Frontline Defense in Warrenton NC would be at least six hours from Anderson, but I've read nothing but great things on this site and others.

There is also an Army base in the Savannah GA area (Ft. Stewart?) that goes out to 1,000 or almost. Apparently there is some .mil paperwork to bring private weapons onto a military base, but it is allowed.

There is also a thread here about monthly matches at Creekside in Taylorsville GA. That's a bit west of Atlanta.

Welcome to the Hide.

Clinton House is 400 a year membership, no additional fees for the rifle or 1000 yard range. Think it is $50 a day for nonmembers on the 1000. So if you think you will go more than 8 times a year it makes sense.

Welcome!

I shoot at the Clinton house. The regular rifle range goes to 300 and the 1000 yard range has steel from 300-1000 yards. You have to get a vip membership to shoot on the 1000 or go as a guest with someone who is a vip member. It's 25 bucks to tag along. Or 400 for vip. It's a great range. I try to get to the 1000 yard range once a week or so

Are the running any PRS/NRL style matches ? Looks like I will be getting stationed either in N or S Carolina. Doing my research now . Currently help run the San Diego Precision Rifle Club in SOCAL with a good group of folks. We have a month match that are average of 35 shooters and upwards of 50.

Does anyone want to comment on the DNR range in Pickens. SC? I live in Greer, SC and have thought about going there to shoot at their 100 and 300 yard range.

There is no 300 yard rifle range at Pickens DNR, only 100 plus pistol and skeet. Spartanburg DNR range is closer to Greer and has 100 & 200 but you shoot through a tunnel - for real. I think it's to keep people on their own targets.

I've never been to Pickens DNR rifle range when it wasn't crowded. It isn't unusual to have all benches full and people waiting. It's only about ten or fifteen minutes from me and I don't get there that often.

Ok, thanks for the update. I was looking at their map and from the scale at the bottom it looked like that one section was 300 yards. If I go I would go through the week like Tuesday to Thursday, do you know if it's crowded then? I would imagine there isn't a time limit on the bench? If I went it would be a day long event for me, like 9 AM to 5 PM.

I seen the one in Spartanburg. If it has 200 yards and the Pickens doesn't I may go there. According to Google maps both are about the same distance for me.

I doubt you'll find much of a crowd Tues to Fri. I'm pretty sure there is no time limit, there isn't one on weekends.

On the plus side, you can borrow a spotting scope by putting your drivers license up as a hostage.

Bring clothespins! There is no backboard to pin or staple targets to. The backing is chicken wire. I did not make that up.

If you go after a good rain, the two or three lanes on the right are a mudpit down by the targets. At other times they're OK.

If making a full day of it, I’d drive the extra 30 mins and pay the daily fee at Clinton House. No crowd, no crazies. Nice covered benches and plenty of room for prone or working on positional stuff. Access to pistol/carbine bays, etc.

I have heard about the Clinton house but when I heard/read they charged to use a range and you had a time limit that turned me off immediately. I'll have to give them another look if you can go and shoot all day for a fee. I'll have to find out what they offer. If someone cares to elaborate that would be great. I can look it up I guess but it's always best to get first hand information.

Well, I'm out to mow grass, kill weeds and other stuff that needs attention. Monday is normally my work day around the house. Be back later on this evening.

The 2 hour time limit is for the 1,000 yard range.

The 300 yard range is a separate area. The website is a bit fuzzy, but as I recall it's a $30 daily rate for pistol/carbine bay and 300 yard range.

Greenville Gun Club goes to 300.
I was a member from 2005-2010, but had to move away. Dues are very reasonable for all of the amenities and it’s right up the road from you.

I don't think they need members or are looking for any. Last time I checked their website they charged $100 just for an application and that was no guarantee you would get in.

Whatever happened to SCOTG? I was a member there until I moved back to PA in 2017. They had 1250yds and ran matches and training there periodically.

They are on Neely Rd in Laurens, SC about a 45min drive east from where I was in Anderson (near the high school on 81).
They had about 8 or so bays 50-100yds, a clubhouse with apartment you could rent on the 2nd floor, the 1250 rifle range, ets. Something like 1200acres.
Last I knew they had a Facebook page and that was about it.
Owner Bo was, I think, USMC. A couple of the principles were also vets, one was 2/75.

I went to all of their 3 Gun matches, great venue for that. But, Bo was a nut job. The 3-gun crew pretty much all migrated to Clinton House.
