Usable snap caps?

I got my DFAT and want to do some dry firing practice. I believe Tikka says do not dry fire the T1X so, even though I didn't know and probably dry fired a few hundred times in the past few months, once I found out I've stopped dry firing it. I figure I should get a snap cap that's re-usable and not like a one time use it and have it crack from the firing pin.

Anyone have good recommendations on a set of snap caps that work?

*EDIT* I do want it to feed from a magazine so I can simulate a Course of Fire, or if that won't work, something that would stay in but not extract so I can cycle my bolt and shoot multiple times.

I use the yellow wall anchors (ya know, those used for screws) that I got form Home Depot. They fit perfectly, work well as a snap cap AND they eject well from my guns.

I actually misspoke when I said I don't care about the feeding part, I meant if I could just leave it in and it didn't extract and I could cycle my bolt and pull the trigger that would be great. But I need to simulate the cycling of my bolt through the CoF so I can pull the trigger the 10-12 times a stage usually requires.

Just carve away the rim on the side of extractor, should do.

It's depend on the mag. For example, they do NOT work well in a Ruger rotary mag (though I can load 2 and with a light spring pressure, they'll load and eject). The DO work in the mag for the Ruger SR22 where I can load a bunch and they'll all cycle as regular rounds. I guess you might try them and see . . .???

I don’t get it. What is the firing pin hitting? Putting something in the chamber that fits (or feeds) does nothing if the firing pin isn’t being stopped before it fully extends. Are You putting something in the wall anchor for the firing pin to hit?

The firing pin hits the edge, or "rim" of the wall anchor.

That's what I using them in a Tikka. Fed and ejected fine about 12 cents a piece.

I will head to the hardware store after work today and pick some up to try. Alternatively... if I don't care about feeding, can't I just put a piece of rubber/leather the size thickness of a rim taped to the barrel where the firing pin normally hits? That way I can cycle the bolt and shoot multiple times.

I have some of the A-Zoom blue aluminum ones that I use in other rimfires, but I had to quit using them in my T1x. The firing pin hits the rim so hard that it deforms the crap out of them in just a few hits. When I first used one I was lifting the bolt to reset the firing pin testing trigger pull, and when I ejected it the rim was cratered and had spread like someone had hit it with a hammer and punch. I can't say that all T1x's are like that, but mine hits freakin' hard. I'm going to have to try some of the polymer Pachmayr ones and see how those hold up.

So someone said that denting that aluminum is perfectly fine. As long as the aluminum casing is preventing the firing pin from sliding under and hurting your chamber. You can hit a cratered aluminum casing over and over as long as it's capturing the firing pin strike from sliding /chipping the chamber.

Timely thread. I was looking for snap caps yesterday and almost bought those too till I read the packaging. They shouldn’t call them “Snap Caps”. I wonder how many guys found out the hard way.

Recently bought a Yodave spring for my cz457 and took a gamble and bought a pack of the snap caps that they sell, these are the best Ive used by far! Used them for a couple dry fire sessions this wknd and they last a lot better then the dry wall anchors which Ive always used. If anyone can find a source in the US let me know as I would love to pick up a few more packs but the Canadian shipping is a killer.

Somebody should reload 22lr with no primer or powder and sell them as snap caps. I wonder how many firing pin strikes the brass case could take?

I just bought these - https://amzn.to/2SxFEj5 and they work really well. Feed and eject well. Can take multiple strikes. The steel is softer than the firing pin so it's not hurting the firing pin.

I've ran these in my Tikka T1X, can load them in the magazine and do dry fire practice stages in my garage. A lot of fun when you're cycling the bolt and doing follow up shots off of DIY barricades.

I use fried cases all the time. Just use them a few times then toss then and use another. Cheap and available.

I use a clear red plastic 22lr dummy round. Have all taken many many hits and feed in all my mags. I dont remember where I got them or brand. Look like Christmas lights
