Hello all, I have a couple Mausers that I would like to put useable but old style scopes on. I may end up just using SWFA 6x or PA ORION, but I know there is an abundance of knowledge here. Any suggestions? Also, is the “Hi Lux M40” any good?

Give Iron Sights in Tulsa a call or email. https://ironsightinc.com/index.php?route=information/contact

I bought an older Redfield from them with a Mildot reticle and they included a one-year warranty. They refurbish them and can custamize to your requests. You can buy some great Redfields or Weavers on Ebay and Gunbroker for reasonable prices if your patient but it's a role of the dice.

I haven't read anything positive about the Hi-Lux vintage stuff.

The old steel Weavers are very useable.

A Weaver T10 is a fine scope its adjustable turrets are great and it has parallax adjustment. There are other magnifications in the T series line.

I have M40 clones so I looked into the Hi-Lux scopes. They look very much the part of a Redfield clone.

Leupold also made a repro M40 scope - looks less like an issue Redfield than the Hi-Lux.

I prefer the Leupolds because they have a mil reticle. The Hi-Lux is a truer clone but the weakness with these scopes include the capped turrets and the "squishy" adjustments. My intent is to just hold mil dots and never mess with my zero.

Id rather get a used vintage Redfield than a Hi-Lux personally.

Ebay has plenty of great older scopes for you just shop with discretion.

Weaver T series for the win.

Carbide balls on the adjustment points, strong spring tension on the erector tube, and very closely ground screws combined into one of the tightest and strongest adjustment systems ever put in a rifle scope.

Including modern production. Nothing has been proven materially better, and most of it is just a repro of the same thing.

Leupolds get Tuckered for a reason....

Do you have any leads on where to buy a T6? I have searched eBay and “iron sights” unsuccessfully.

You might check with these people.

Well. I didn't really post this as an intent to sell.. But I just got the barrel off of my 457 last night and started weighing components, so I might---painfully--send you my T6.

I really love it, but I also really need to lose some weight on this rifle, and a lighter scope is the way to do that.

...gah.. I JUST got this thing, and it's kind of rare as it is.

Well, lemme know.

Settled on a Weaver K4-60B for now. Hopefully it will hold zero, unlike my LOW Japanese Scope.

I had a K10-60B.

It was a pretty nice scope...

It was on my M40A1 until I got my USO/MST-100

It did pretty well. Only issue with it was it ran out of elevation at about 600 yards with the base I was using. My particular scope had some sort of "fish eye" in it also that kind of moved around the lens.

You used the elevation adjustment beyond normal zeroing? I was thinking the simple erector mechanism should be repeatable enough if it’s working properly.

I usually only shoot at either 100 yards, 200 yards or 300 yards. That's what my usual range offers.

Doing that I Sharpied lines on the elevation erector that corresponded to each distance and dialed when I shot at a specific range.

Doing this seemed to get me close enough.

Occasionally I get to shoot a 900 meter range and when I did best I could reach dialing was to set it at about 600 yards and even than it took holding the top of the silhouette to hit.

Zeroed this Bad Larry today and tested some loads. 190 grainers look like the trick and the scope is tracking well. Thanks for the advise folks!

The 6x42 Kahles ZF 69, often taken off Steyr SSGs, are perfect on M40'ies with Redfield 26mm 4sqrew rings.
This is how the M40'ies should have been scoped in the first place instead of the Redfield scopes.
The ZF69 is a perfect bulletproof scope in the field with outstanding optics for its age.

For range use the T10 is the best vintage scope.
