Hunting & Fishing Using Core Lokt for PA whitetail this year

Recently I completed a .308 build and haven't had time to get with my dad to do me up some custom loads.

Walmart carries the Remington Core Lokt 150gr which should be ok for deer? They shot good out of my R700 Varmint and I was getting better than 1moa when I did my part so they should be fine.

Come spring time I'll be using all the brass I have for doing up some 165gr SST loads for next year's hunt, but I'm stuck with Core Lokt for now.

Put it where it should go and you'll be fine. In fact, put it somewhere reasonably close to where it should go and you'll be fine.

I use Core-Lokt in my .270 Win and it drops deer pretty well. Always had the bullet punch all the way through and take out good chunks of lung with it. Don't worry about what the bullet will do , just worry about your shot placement and the deer will go down every time. On another note, they splash on steel very well too.

Lots of people use those successfully on deer, elk, antelope, etc. I dropped a good sized whitetail with a 30.06 150 gr Core Lokt before I I had a custom load worked out. He took 2 steps and piled up.

i picked up some 180gr core lokt for my brother and his '06. i got a .777" group with it at 100 yards. i was really surprised. not to mention he droppped a monster ten point with it!

I took my first few whitetails several years back with the 150 grain Core Lokt. They all performed well for me.

I'd go buy federal premium cartridges.

I've had people on hunts here in the west that shot those bullets and they preformed horribly!

We have a video tape ( somewhere) of a corelokt bullet passing clean through a speedgoat. Far as we know that thing is still running around Wyoming. We say this goat 2 days after he was shot and he was still breeding does.

They are cheap and ya get what you pay for in this case.

From the time I was a kid I've killed a lot of deer with 130gr 270 core lok loads. They will never give you the sub minute accuracy that premium or custom loads will, but they are a pretty good hunting bullet.

They work admirably on Whitetail if you do your part!! And those stats are not from just a few deer down.

Core Lokt's are excellent choices for your hunting needs. The results speak for themselves - used for decades and still in business. Do your budget a favor and pass the $40+ premium ammo for practical and time tested Core Lokt's. As with any bullet placement is everything.

+1 vote for lousy shot. Sound like a given fact the bullet was poorly placed. And certainly it wasn't the shooter's fault. Just blame the bullet.

Have killed several PA whitetail with factory Core-lock. As stated above shot placement is key. Even premium bullets will not kill reliably unless the vitals are hit.

Dude, delivered via 30/30 (150g) , 30-06 (180g), .243 Win (100g), .308 Win (150g) and .270, I have witnessed about a semi-load of deer and a couple black bears killed Very dead by CorLokt's since that's about all that the hunters where I was from used when I was growing up.

Most of my experience with CorLokts has been on short/medium range shots, 25-200 yards. Every time the bullet landed in the vitals it passed through completely and did all the damage one could ask for. If they are giving you acceptable accuracy, focus on good shot placement and don't worry about the rest.

I shot an elk at 350 yards with a corelokt out of my .300WM here in CO and it did the job. The cow took 3 steps and tipped over.

Deer aren't super tough and a 308 isn't that fast. As long as they shoot OK in your rifle, use 'em. They'll kill a deer deader than hell.

They'll do plenty fine. I think the bigger concern would be finding a deer to put it in, unless you have some good private ground

Some of the best groups I got out of factory loads (besides match bullets) in my old .308 VTR was with 180gr core-lokts!

Core-lokts seem to be a "go-to" for most weekend warrior hunters... and have probably downed more deer than other factory cartridges.

I have killed deer and hogs with factory loaded Corelokt ammo in several different caliber, and I use the Corelokt bullets in my handloads. I have had flawless performance out of them all.

I do buy a few "premium" bullets also for my handloads if I can find a deal, but in my opinion, they really aren't worth the extra expense.

It has been my observation that most "bullet performance issues" have more to do with poor shot placement than actual bullet performance. I am not saying a bullet can't "fail", but that seems to be the first place blame is assigned if an animal goes very far or is not found. Just sayin'...
