Using Ram Shot TAC for .243?

Re: Using Ram Shot TAC for .243?

TAC is to fast... TAC is good for 308 and .223.

For the 243 you want RL-15 to Win 760 burn rate for light bullets, and RL-19/IMR 4350 to RL-22 burn rate for heavy bullets.

Ramshot HUNTER is what I would suggest if you want a Ramshot powder for the 243. RL-19 is about the same as Ramshot Hunter.

Ramshot Magnum is the next offering up and that is the range of Alliant R-25 or Hodgdon H1000, and that's way to slow!

I hope this helps.

Re: Using Ram Shot TAC for .243?

Thank you for the clarification. I am using RL-15 right now with Hornady 75gr HP and 87 Vmax....not having good luck with the 75gr HP bullets even though my rifle shoots the Factory Hornady 75gr stuff at sub 1/2" five shot groups at 100yrds. So far all my reloading attempts for my .223 and .243 have really sucked. I did stumble on a load my AR likes using 25.5gn of BenchMark and 50gr Blitz King bullets.

Take care,Stan

I have had good luck with the .223 with the Sierra 52 gr HPBT and the V-max series of bullets have not proven me wrong. Sierra lists the most accurate load using RL-7 with the 55 gr bullets.. all the accuracy loads for the AR-15 in 55 gr are at 2900 FPS. And like you with the 50 gr BlitzKing vel of 3100 is the accuracy load.

I don't know what twist you have in your 243 a 1:10 or a 1:8 Varget seems to work well at full power loads with the 70 gr Sierra HPBT #1505 at a MAX load of 41.7 gr start at 38 gr and work up to it.in a 24" barrel that load should get about 3550 FPS.

But I would shoot a 65 gr V-Max at only 3200 FPS using IMR 4350 43.2 gr It is the most accurate load listed for that bullet and is the starting load. 42,700 PSI so it's easy on the barrel and a tack driver. 3200 fps will get the job done. Not a super high BC but going up to the 105 gr A-Max using the same powder, IMR 4350, at 39.2 gr MAX (so start at 36 gr) is listed as the most accurate... 2749 FPS but 55.500 PSI

I have been VERY impressed with The A-Max and V-MAX bullets from Hornady, The Sierra bullets, and the Speer TNT line is very accurate in all my tests.

Be SAFE!
