Using Varget , with 69gr. SMK .....anyone?

I'm looking for a load for my .223cal with a 1/9 twist
for a up coming match.
I would like to use 69gr. SMK's, or Berger bullet.
I have had luck with Varget, so i would like to find a good load with it. I could go with a lighter bullet, or make of bullet....but, would like to stay in the 60's on grains.
The comp. will have ranges from 100-575yrds. So, i fig. the 69gr. would do well. But, I'm open to options!
the gun is a 20"Bbl. Rem. 700 with 1/9 twist. it's in a HS m-24 stock.

I personally would use 24.5 to 25 grains of Varget. Either load should drive tacks. Watch for an overly-compressed mag-length load, the bullet will have the telltale 'seating ring' just above the ogive of the bullet.

Edit: Just saw this was in a 700 and not an AR. Load should still work fine.

I shoot 69gr SMK's with 25.4gr of Varget in LC brass in my 700 SPS tactical. No pressure signs at 100deg and it is a 1 holer at 100yds. Runs about 2850fps 10' from the muzzle. I shoot it regularly out to 600 and it is stupid how accurate it is. Last year I had a confirmed kill on a prairie dog at 949yds with it. BY FAR my favorite rifle/load combo. Work up to 25.4gr in your gun.

I used Varget with the 69mk untill I tried IMR8208. More speed, better numbers, and more accurate.

I use 24.6gr Varget CCI primers in LC cases pushing 69gr SMKs in 223 in my 20" AR15. I have a 0.8" 20-shot group.

I too think 8208 is better in my rifel than Varget with the 69gn class bullet.but like always said its my opinion and rifel.just shoots the heck out of it with 8208 and a 69gn bullet.gotta love when they do that.

My SPS Tactical 20" 1/9 loves 69 gr. SMK/Lapua Brass/25 gr. Varget.

The Hodgdon manual gives a range of 24-26 gr. for the 69 gr. SMK.

I shoot way more .308 than .223, so I just used Varget for .223 since I had it for .308.

Works well for me.

I'm thinking, thats the 70gr. Bergers are best BC, of the 2!

Do you guy's think, that I can use the load data for the 69gr. SMK's for the 70gr. Bergers?

I use 25 gr varget in a lc case with win sr primers and 69 gr smk. Gets me 2750 from my JP 20 in AR-15.

how much 8208? 25grs of Varget is holding about .75 at 100, i am quickly learning MAXLOAD is not always better.

I've used 24.0gr Varget with a 75gr Hornady BTHP with great luck, and 24.5gr with the 68gr BTHP did well too but I've done no development with the 68gr pills yet.

My load is 69 SMK, 25.3gr Varget, LC brass and Rem 7 1/2 primers @ 2.26 oal. Works great in my AR and the LTR. The other day, a friend of mine challenged me @ 200yds. Here's the results.

I know, only four rounds, but that's all my HS precision mags hold. Going to upgrade shortly.

69 SMK with 25.3gr Varget in LC-09 brass and WSR primers @ 2.26 oal, I use this in two bolt rifles at it shoots TIGHT.
