I just got a USMC marked 40X barrel and receiver in from CMP.

I would like to clone the .22 trainers we used in the Scout Sniper Basic Course. The problem is we only used them for one day and I have no photos to go by.

Does anyone have any photos or information on how these were configured. I have contacted a couple folks and at least one former SNCOIC of the schoolhouse and the only info I have been able to recall is the one I was issued had a Leupold 6x scope. For some reason I seem to recall that the stocks were walnut BDL style instead of the target type that are usually found on these rifles.

Can anyone assist, or put me in contact with someone who has some info on these old rifles?

I may just say "screw it" and drop this puppy into a HTG and put a Bushnell 10x on it and be happy.

LW, You can find a used stock for your 40x which is a 722 action in different locations . The dreaded evilbay, and others. As for a bolt , you would have to buy a PTG replacement bolt , or you might be lucky enough to find an original. This small bit of info might get you started .45/70SS

Cleaned em out.

4570, I lucked out because all this one needs is a bolt release, bolt and trigger. The cartridge guide, etc is already there.

I have a spare 40XB stock here that I can make work, but I would prefer to build this into a Sniper School Trainer. If I can't build it out original like, then I will probably make it into a M40A1 .22 clone.

Bumping this one back up. Did you ever figure out what it was? I'm remembering a Redfield style when I went through SSAC in 2001, the shorter scope, but we only had out hands on them for one day for the fun shoot.

I remember it basically like LW does, a smaller fixed power scope. I don't know what exactly they had on them as it was one afternoon of shooting twelve years ago for me. I think maybe it's time to reach out to some of the boys...
